Powers/Abilities: Dr. Milius was an experienced physician (and presumably a surgeon) who valued helping those in need and the less fortunate over making a profit.

    He also volunteered his time to provide medical services for the people of Tibet and to train medical students in providing such services.

History:
(Strange I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Every year for at least 10 years, Dr. Milius took a group of medical students to Tibet to study alternative medicine.

(Strange I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Milius was impressed after Stephen Strange got the local Wong to speak again, after not speaking since he had been 4-years-old.

(Strange I#1) - At a party with the students, Dr. Milius praised Stephen's ability to get Wong to speak again, telling him that what he had done for the young man was nothing short of a miracle. Stephen explained that Wong was asking if he could come to the USA with Stephen when he returned, and that he had told Wong that he would try to make it happen, or at least come back to visit him. Dr. Milius told Stephen that that was all any of them could do, and that Stephen was a gifted man and would be an exceptional doctor.

    Stephen asked about the old monastery on the mountain he had tried to visit, and Dr. Milius told him that it had been abandoned in the 1950s and that, according to legend, the Ancient One lived there, the healer of souls, the guardian of the sanctuary. He further added that it was rumored that the monks had filled it with hidden treasure before they had disappeared but that he was sure that it was long gone now. When Stephen noted that he had decided to come back there after he finished his internship, Dr. Milius told him that nothing would make him happier but that while hundreds of others had said the same words, none had ever actually followed through on it; however, he hoped that Stephen would be the one to restore is faith in such things. Stephen promised that he would, and Dr. Milius believed him: "May that promise be the lamp that guides your feet on your journey."

(Strange I#1) <Three years later> - As Stephen and his classmate Devon Malby, who had also taken the journey to Tibet, celebrated at a graduation party at Alpha Sigma Chi fraternity and considered which women to romance, Dr. Milius arrived and greeted Stephen. He congratulated Stephen on his new job opportunity with a top medical corporation in New York, but when Stephen commented on the money he would make, Dr. Milius replied sarcastically that money was everything. He continued that the Barnsley Center catered to the rich and famous, to patrons who can afford to spend obscene amounts of money on imaginary problems, prescriptions for whatever meds were in fashion that week, and so many face-lifts that after a while every time they smiled, they socks rose up.

    While Devon suggested that they should probably leave, Stephen argued that they had just spent the last six years there training to become medical professionals and to be successful. Dr, Milius countered that they were trained to be doctors, not the medical profession's version of a pimp. With frustration, Milius told Stephen that he was the finest surgeon he had ever seen and that he had been given those skills for a reason: To save lives. He further asked if he understood how many lives he would be abandoning to lesser talents that could save lives. Ignoring Devon's suggestion to let it go, Stephen told Dr. Milius that he had listened to his lectures for six years and that he did not need this one, as he had nothing to apologize for, to him or to anyone.

    Dr. Milius then told Stephen that Wong asked about him every six months, noting that Stephen had promised to return, and that every time a plane lands, he was disappointed..."we all are." Having had wine, Stephen retaliated that if he was a disappointment, then Milius was a joke. He added that Milius was jealous of him, that the student had surpassed the teacher, and that Milius was going to live and die inside the walls of the campus.

    Departing, Milius clarified that he didn't hate Stephen but rather felt sorry for him because he didn't understand. "I just hope that you figure it out someday. That you have a chance, and time, to become the doctor you think you are." And then he bade Stephen good night. Stephen started to rush out to talk to Dr. Milius further, but Devon told him that Milius wasn't worth it.

    As he and Devon went back inside, Stephen noted that he should not have said what he did to Dr. Milius as he didn't deserve it. Devon told Stephen that he was upset and had too much to drink, but that he could apologize to Dr. Milius the next day.

    However, as Dr. Milius drove home, he found the brakes weren't working in his car, and as he swerved to avoid hitting students, he crashed into a brick wall and was killed.

(Strange I#1 - BTS) - After Dr. Milius' funeral, Stephen voiced that he had told him that he would die inside the walls of the campus, and he did. After Devon noted this to just be coincidence, Stephen considered that he would go back to Tibet to see Wong next summer.

(Strange I#4 - BTS) - Years later, Clea told Stephen he was a nexus being and that his rage had acted out, killing Dr. Milius.

(Strange I#5 - BTS) - The Ancient One told Stephen that Devon had influenced both the death of Dr. Milius and the accident that left Stephen unable to perform surgery again.. 

    This profile was completed 05/14/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25^th anniversary 's celebratory event.
