History: (Incredible Hulk II#386 (fb) - BTS) - Born in the Republic of Draburg, Max Meer moved to Jerusalem with his parents at age thirteen after his father became Draburg's first ambassador in Israel.
(Incredible Hulk II#386 - BTS) - Delphi of the Pantheon saw a vision of reality-91486, where 30-40 years in the future Max Meer had become a horrific tyrant responsible for the deaths of millions.
(Incredible Hulk II#387 (fb) - BTS) - Pantheon's leader Agamemnon dispatched Achilles, a survivor of the Holocaust, on a mission to kill Max if possible, or to bring him to Pantheon's headquarters at the Mount if not.
(Incredible Hulk II#386 (fb) - BTS) - Shortly after the Meer family landed in Israel, Achilles attacked them in Tel Aviv, but was foiled by Israeli superhero Sabra. Achilles retreated, but Max remembered his face. Agamemnon reached out to the Hulk (Bruce Banner), claiming that Achilles had gone rogue and asking Banner and his associate Rick Jones to bring both Achilles and Max Meer to the Mount.
(Incredible Hulk II#386) - Mr. Rabin of the Knesset welcomed Ambassador Meer and his family to Jerusalem, shaking Max's hand.
(Incredible Hulk II#387 (fb) - BTS) - Rabin's daughter Gretta, secretly a powerful telepath, saw Max and immediately knew that she could control his mind and channel her power through him without anybody suspecting her of being the true power in charge.
(Incredible Hulk II#386) - Gretta approached Max at the Draburg Embassy and who asked him to go out into the city. Max initially declined but agreed to follow Gretta after she used her power on him. They sneaked past embassy security and went into Jerusalem's Old Town, which excited Max by its contrast with the new city. At a bookstore, Max wanted to buy a book at full price but Gretta told him that he was supposed to haggle, so he offered half. The merchant was about to continue haggling when Gretta subtly projected her powers through Max, causing the merchant to immediately accept Max's price. Achilles attempted to grab him, but Max threw the book in his face and told Gretta to run.
(Incredible Hulk II#386 - BTS) - They were spotted by the Hulk, who was about to follow Achilles but was attacked by Sabra, who assumed the Hulk to be working with the assassin.
(Incredible Hulk II#386) - Max and Gretta ran into a dead end, where Achilles caught up with them. Gretta channeled her powers through Max to tell Achilles to leave, to no effect. Achilles raised his gun at Max but was tackled by Rick Jones, allowing Max and Gretta to escape. They ran into a crowd, and Gretta told Max to ask them for help, driving them into a murderous frenzy against his attacker.
(Incredible Hulk II#387) - Gretta showered Max with compliments, but he suffered a strong headache as his mind was fighting with itself. Gretta reasserted her control, and Max said that meeting Gretta brought clarity to everything. Gretta led Max to the Dome of the Rock, where Achilles caught up with them again. Gretta pushed Max to use "his powers," telling their pursuer to kill himself, but Achilles was immune to mind control. They ran higher up, where Max slipped and fell but was caught by the Hulk and safely put on the ground. No longer influenced by Gretta, Max turned back and ran home. From above, Achilles saw that the boy was about to run into the crowd whipped into a frenzy earlier. He stalled the Hulk and Sabra by talking, delaying them just long enough for Max to be trampled by the crowd.
(Incredible Hulk II#387 (fb) - BTS) - Max fell into a coma and was taken to Jerusalem hospital. The doctors told his parents that he would not recover.
(Incredible Hulk II#387) - Gretta came to Max's bedside and spoke of how she had successfully fooled everyone. As someone who could control minds, she knew the power of operating from the shadows and saw Max as a useful figurehead, telling him that he would recover and that they were destined for great things together.
