History:

(Popples#1 (fb) - BTS) - The Soviet secret agent known as Madame Spy took an undercover job as a baby sitter for Alice, the daughter of the Old Zealand ambassador to the United Nations (UN) in order to learn state secrets. She was aided by a short but ineffectual "comrade".

(Popples#1) - Madame Spy discovered the UN ambassador had a big secret and desperately wanted to find out what it was, leaving a big mess in his home, briefly distracted by her comrade. Alice felt isolated and hid, but was befriended by bouncing happy bear-like bundles called Popples. The fun-loving critters investigated and discovered Madame Spy's true identity. The Popples warned Alice and distracted Madame Spy so that they could flee from the secret agent in the ambassador's limousine. The Popples and Alice went to the UN building to inform Alice's father, but got caught in a traffic jam. Madame Spy put on her running shoes to bypass traffic and accidentally initiated a marathon run. Madame Spy reached the ambassador first and lied that Alice had run away; however, Alice and the Popples arrived on foot and told of Madame Spy's nefarious motives. Madame Spy tried to escape but was caught by police with the aid of the Popples. Madame Spy called out that she would learn the ambassador's secret and he later revealed to Alice the secret was that she had a new baby sister.

"Old Zealand"? Clearly a play on the real country New Zealand--or someone at the UN stuffed up the name plates.

When she inadvertently sets off a marathon run, she criticizes crazy New Yorkers and wishes she was back behind the "Rusty Curtain"--a reference to the old "Iron Curtain" of the Soviet Communist era.
