History:

(Air Raiders#2 (fb) - BTS) - Environmental catastrophe on the planet Airlandia made breathable air a valuable commodity, hoarded in the tyrannical rule of Aerozar, his daughter Kala and his forces. The oppressed people harvested breathable air from domed gardens and were occasionally defended by valiant Air Raider rebels against imperial Lancers. While Aerozar ruled cruelly, manipulative Kala learned from her father's political machinations, and used spies and bribes to gain sinister influence.

(Air Raiders#2) - Air Raider Eeleta (secretly a willing captive on a mission to infiltrate the castle) was brought before Aerozar and Kala by Captain Trask. Aerozar and Eeleta traded duplicitously kind words, discussing her father's seeming demise. The rebel was taken away as a captive "guest" of the emperor. All this was observed by Kala, who demanded Eeleta be interrogated. Aerozar chided her and sent her away. Mistrustful, Kala bribed lackey Sgt. Blott to investigate Eeleta's room and found she had escaped with the aid of rebel spy Alami. Kala and Blott blocked the unarmed Eeleta as she tried to sneak back to her room.

(Air Raiders#3) - Kala ordered Blott shoot Eeleta but Aerozar's surprise appearance with guards saved the rebel. Kala bluffed innocence but Aerozar dismissed her away. The next day, Kala stood alongside her father on the imperial platform at the grand Airfest with a huge crowd. Freed from the dungeons, Eeleta's father and former popular ruler Archion was blackmailed into making a subservient declaration of support for Aerozar, but Archion refused. Air Raiders suddenly attacked and rescued Eeleta and Archion, but Aerozar and Kala escaped in the chaos.

(Air Raiders#4 - BTS) - Kala was tasked by her father to investigate why Baron Ee-Lon's tribute deliveries of air were consistently late.

(Air Raiders#4) - Ee-Lon was hours late meeting with Kala, distracted by the violent acquisition of the rare red zephyr orchid. Ee-Lon offered a flower as an apology, but inhaling the scent made Kala briefly susceptible to Ee-Lon's wily influence. Kala later met Ee-Lon in his opulent greenhouse, but Kala, no longer drugged, insisted on seeing the baron's air refinery, and demanded additional air tribute for Aerozar. Ee-Lon submitted but was distracted by rare orchids sold by a flower seller (actually rebel Rokk in disguise). Rokk lured Ee-Lon to a rebel-held forest region; suspicious, Kala followed with Lancers, but they were overwhelmed by Air Raiders. Rokk held Kala and Ee-Lon ransom for the promised air tanks. Unwilling to sacrifice his daughter, Aerozar agreed to the terms and the rebels escaped with their prize. Partly as punishment, Aerozar drained Ee-Lon's treasured garden for its air while Kala watched loyally.

Comments: Created by Howard Mackie, Kelley Jones, Jim Sinclair.

Air Raiders was a toy line created by Hasbro. I can't find enough information to determine if Kala was an original Marvel character or one created by Hasbro.

The last page of Air Raiders #5 (the final issue) promised a next issue with the story title "Windjammer"; it's unknown what was planned for Kala.

Unfortunately, like a few other licensed titles of Marvel's Star imprint (like Visionaries and Inhumanoids), the series was cut short partway through the main storyline.

Thanks to Loki for noting there are four coloring books published for Air Raiders. As far as I can tell, they offer no new storylines.

It's assumed Airlandians have the same physical stats as humans. There's also nothing ruling them out of Earth-616.

This profile was completed on 05/25/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent
