History:

(Thor I#391) - Aloysius R. Jamesly took over a construction project which was already well-underway and had already been designed by architect Eric Masterson while construction foreman Jerry Sapristi had already built the building's skeleton. Despite this, Jamesly told Sapristi, Masterson and construction worker Sigurd Jarlson (alias Thor) that although Eric was the architect, the building was "an Aloysius R. Jamesly production! It's my work! My vision! My statement to the world of contemporary architecture! I don't care what it costs, or how long it takes, I want it to be perfect! That's why I have decided to tear it down, and start over!" Sapristi objected that the building was already half-complete. "Don't bother me with such petty details! I am a genius! An artist! This building will be my masterpiece!" Despite Jamesly's aspirations, work continued on the building until it was interrupted by the villain Mongoose, who was hunting Thor. While Thor and Spider-Man fought the Mongoose, Jamesly shouted out suggestions to Spider-Man on how to fight, which Spider-Man considered unhelpful. Thor accidentally struck a hole through the floor they were fighting on, forcing Spider-Man to rescue Jamesly. Jamesly declared, "This is all your fault, Spider-Man! If you had only listened to me, that madman would have been defeated long ago! Trust me, I'm a genius! Just put me down--out of harm's way--and I'll gladly direct this fight for you!" Annoyed, Spider-Man webbed Jamesly upside-down from a girder and gagged him.

(Thor I#392) - Alyosius fell into despair at the sight of the building lying in ruins from Thor and Spider-Man's fight with Mongoose. When Jerry Sapristi reminded him the building was insured, Jamesly immediately brightened up: "They'll never learn about my numerous cost overruns either! I can scrap this monstrosity and start over! I can create a new work of art! A new testament to the genius of Aloysius R. Jamesly!" Sapristi's company looked for other projects while the insurance was being settled.

(Thor I#416) - Jamesly held a business lunch with Eric Masterson and Jackie Lukas. The other two arrived just as Jamesly was instructing his waitress "in the proper manner of serving cappuccino!" As they took their seats, Jamesly began telling them of his latest project, "A building which will bring the name of Aloysius R. Jamesly to new and greater prominence in the world of architecture! A true testament to my genius! My total artistic vision!" Eric and Jackie were briefly distracted when they witnessed police officer Lt. Marc Stone capturing a gang of criminals. Jamesly quickly insisted they turn their attention back to him so that he could continue talking about his project.

(Thor I#444) - After Eric Masterson's home was badly damaged, Jerry Sapristi threw him a Christmas party amidst the wreckage and summoned Jamesly to the party alongside Eric's son Kevin, ex-wife Marcy and well-wishers Bobby Steele, Tina Sapristi, Jerry and Tina's children, Ed Marrero, Jackie Lukas, Samantha Joyce and "Harry Cleese" (Hercules). With his arm around Jamesly's shoulder, "Harry" delivered a flowery Shakespearean speech to Eric, leaving Jamesly unable to add more than: "What he said--!"

(Thor I#449) - After a fight between Thor (Masterson), Titania and the Absorbing Man wrecked a construction site where Sapristi and Jamesly were working the entire group was temporarily put out of work.

Jamesly seemed to be a full foot shorter than Hercules in Thor I#444.

If the internet had been then what it is now, Jamesly would've been an early "well, actually"-man.

DeFalco and Frenz had (and I think still have at time of writing) a lot of bad blood between them and Christopher Priest (then named James Owsley) due to Priest firing them from Amazing Spider-Man. Jamesly is thus a satirical representation of how they viewed him as their editor - a puffed-up, ostentatious, glory-seeking loudmouth who doesn't really know what he's talking about. Believe it or not, Priest was a very good sport about this parody; as Priest discussed on his website:

After I left staff, there were issues of THOR that featured a guy named Aloysius P. Jamesley, who was blatantly and litigiously me. A mean-spirited Tuckerization that, even I have to admit, was really funny in an insider kind of way. Fans might not find Jamesly that funny, but it was a wicked rip at me, and largely deserved, so I didn't make a big deal about it.

Priest has been very candid about his tumultuous time as editor of the Spider-Man comics and concluded it had been a mistake for him to take the assignment; pretty much everyone who worked on the books then concurs, even Peter David, who got his big break thanks to Priest (David felt being hired by Priest tarnished his own reputation because Priest's exit was such a spectacular flameout). Note that Jamesly's debut guest starred Spider-Man and featured the villain Mongoose, whom DeFalco & Frenz had intended to use during their Amazing Spider-Man run - another subtle dig at Priest. Priest discussed his disastrous tenure as Spider-Man editor elsewhere on his website.

Bill was an engineer working with Eric Masterson on the construction project overseen by Aloysius R. Jamesly. Looking at the changes Jamesly had asked for, Bill opined they were "insane."
