Powers/Abilities: "Pops" Ivanov is an experienced astronaut, presumably more involved with navigation and maintenance than off-ship maneuvers.
He had knowledge of music dating back
to over 150 years prior to his adult age.
History:
(Memories#1 (fb) - BTS) - "Pops" Ivanov was part
of the crew of the Disposer OS-2.
(Memories#1 - BTS) - After
they
received a distress call from Green 3005, which was known as the
Sargasso, a space junkyard, Heintz Beckner communicated with
unidentified parties in a large public corporation who wished them to
take the job.
(Memories#1) - Beckner
told Ivanov and Miguel Costrella that pay had been getting pretty awful
lately and advised them that they needed to take the job. Ivanov asked
if the magnetic field in that region wasn't really bad, but after Heintz
told him that the mission would only be 7-8 hours and that they could
cover up the computers to protect them, Ivanov agreed that that would
work.
Ivanov reported as they entered the
green zone, after which Costrella reported up that music was being
broadcast, and Ivanov identified it as "Moonlight Serenade" and that it
was coming from Green 3005.
As they followed the signal to the ship, someone (presumably Ivanov) advised that they check the magnetic field, noting that they should stand by the analysis gun as they could blast it if needed. When a sharp magnetic increase was detected, Beckner stated answered Ivanov's concerns about danger by stating that if the music was coming from a damaged ship, they had to perform a rescue or be in violation of their charter. Ivanov commented that whoever was out there must be pretty chic to be using Glenn Miller as a distress call.
As they approached the ship, all aboard
were shocked to see that it was in the form of a giant rose.
(Memories#1 - BTS) - Ivanov stayed on board while Beckner and Costrella boarded the ship via small exit crafts.
(Memories#1) - Losing track of them as they entered the ship, Ivanov checked in on them. They noted how the interior (which was in the style of perhaps early 20th Century American decor) looked like a museum, although Ivanov could not hear them.
(Memories#1 - BTS) - Beckner and Costrella encountered numerous robot servants and ultimately found the skeletal corpse of ship's creator and former mistress, Eva Friedel, and her diary, which included poems and notes that she had left in heartbreak (presumably after having murdered her fiance' Carlo Rambaldi).
(Memories#1) - He
continued
to check in on them, noting his concern with the loss of contact, and
then urging them that they needed to hurry, as time was running out.
As Beckner and Costrella fled the ship, blasting the robot guards and possibly
doing further damage, Ivanov advised them that the energy levels were
going off the gauges and that this was a magnetic storm beyond anything
he had ever seen.

they returned to their ship, Beckner and Costrella tried to advise Ivanov to ready their analysis gun,
but they found that communications were blocked.
Too late, they realized that the robots
were trying to recreate Eva's memories, including the rose that had
reminded her of her lover, and the Disposer
OS-2 broke apart under the magnetic field.

I have not seen (and could not
read) the original Japanese comic book. I just have read the Epic version,
which is listed as a translation of the original, so presumably the
stories are virtually identical?
Additionally, the story was made
into the movie Memories 1995, and the story in the comic book Memories was
retitled "Magnetic Rose" as one of three stories in the movie. Loki was
kind enough to watch the movie, and he found that, while it was
substantially different (not just an expansion), a number of names were
provided in the film, whereas the characters were all frustrating
unidentified in the comic. As no-named characters are so forgettable and
hard to keep track of, I'm using the names provided in the film as the
names for the characters in the comic, in quotes initially, and then
without quote in further references as it just tedious to keep including
quotes...especially when you have to put single quotes around "pops"
inside of the double quotes...

Just skimmed the movie and it doesn't make it too easy to identify the
comic versions, as they've modified their appearances and don't follow the
details too closely, so much as the overall plot. Heintz is blond and
clean shaven, which matches none of the comic versions. Interestingly the
subtitles call him Heinz, no T, but he flashes his ID to the camera at
10.30 in and though his signature is hard to read it's clear his first
name is Heintz with a T. So whoever did the subtitles got it wrong - I
guess it's a Johann Shmidt vs Schmidt situation, where people wrongly
ASSume the more common spelling should be used. At 10.33 we get him
stating the full names of him and his partner - Heinz (sic) Beckner and
Miguel Costrella. He also provides the date: October 12, 2092.
Matching them based on actions more than appearance: Ivanov is the one who stays behind in the comic. Aoshima (who also stays behind) doesn't have a comic counterpart. The counterpart to Heintz is the balding spacer with the heavy beard (couldn't look much more different), and Miguel is the one with the mustache, based on mustache trying the milk on the wreck and Miguel similarly trying wine on the wreck in the movie; in both cases they end up spitting out the drink because it's gone bad and are told by their compatriot that they are lucky to be alive.
The original comic was titled:
Kanojo no Omoide (彼 女の想いで…)
Google translate gives slightly different, albeit more or less synonymous translations for those, even though it translates the Kanji 彼 女の想いで… to the same anglicized Kanojo no Omoide. Variously, it translates it as:
Kanojo no Omoide - Her Memories
KanojonoOmoide (no gaps) - Memories of Her
彼 女の想いで… - With Her Thoughts
Additionally, per Wikipedia, in the
movie, the starship of Ivanov, et. al., was called the Corona. The ship's
inhabitant/builder was once famous opera diva Eva Friedel, who had
disappeared after the murder of her fiance, Carlo Rambaldi, a former
singer.
While the stories are different, I'm including those
people's names as discussed above; since the ship was named Disposer OS-2
in-story, I'll leave "Corona" for the comments here.
Additionally, while an Epic story is within the Marvel
Megaverse, I'm not going to designate a reality for the movie, which is
another step away from Marvel...and me.
Earth-80925 Circa 2092 A.D., the crew of the Disposer OS-2 answered a distress and encountered a giant ship in the form of a rose, formed long ago by its long-deceased inhabitant who had fled to into space following a heart-breaking relationship. Memories #1 (1992)
