History:

(Apache Kid I#53/3) - Astride his horse Lightning, Red Hawkins and his friend Tall Feather saw the wild stallion Silver Queen. While Hawkins had to ride on, Tall Feather chose to remain behind and attempt to tame Silver Queen. Hawkins doubted Tall Feather would succeed (betting him a nickel), but wished him well. Later, in Chapparel City, Hawkins was reunited with Tall Feather, who gave up the nickel he'd wagered. Tall Feather had captured Silver Queen but let her go as a matter of honor.

(Wild Western I#13/3) - Now upon the horse Fury, Red Hawkins came across his friend Jed Smith being attacked by Russ Winters, a sheepherder. Hawkins defeated Winters and helped Jed back to his ranch. That night at the ranch, other ranchers were determined to drive the sheepherders out of the territory but Hawkins asked them to hold back long enough for him to scout the situation. Heading to the sheepherders' land, Hawkins met Matt Jenkins and his daughter Clara, who believed themselves to be victims of the ranchers. Investigating further, Hawkins discovered Russ Winters was the one stoking up tensions between the ranchers and sheepherders. Winters' men discovered Hawkins and captured him but Fury broke Hawkins from his bonds and Hawkins rode to warn both the ranchers and sheepherders about Winters. The place Winters had chosen to wait for his ambush turned out to be flooded by a river and Hawkins concluded that nature itself had risen up against Winters.

(Wild Western I#14/2) - Caught in a storm, Red stopped at a cabin. Unfortunately, the owner, Jim, mistook him for a rustler and took him prisoner, then ordered his foreman, Rance Billings, to lynch Hawkins. However, Hawkins swiped a container of pepper from the cabin and before he could be lynched, he flung the pepper into the eyes of Billings' men Slick and Tim, then summoned Fury to him and rode away.

    Circling around, Hawkins discovered Slick, Tim and Billings were the rustlers and they were about to murder Jim so they could pin it on Hawkins. Hawkins saved Jim, then the two men helped lead a posse led by rancher Frank Tipton to the camp where Billings' men had concealed their stolen cattle. Tipton and his posse helped Hawkins best Billings.

    Red Hawkins' first adventure seems to be an altered Tex Morgan adventure - note that it's the only story where he rides alongside Tall Feather and that their horses are named Cloud and Lightning, the same names as Tex Morgan and Lobo's horses.

TALL FEATHER

Tall Feather was Red Hawkins' indigenous comrade on one of his adventures and rode on the horse Cloud. When Tall Feather saw the stallion Silver Queen he became determined to own her and wagered with Hawkins over it. Tall Feather suceeded in capturing Silver Queen but when he learned she had a mate in the wild he let her go. Catching up to Red Hawkins, he paid up on their wager, not revealing the reason why he'd failed to capture Silver Queen.
