History: (Venom: Black, White & Blood#3/3 (fb) - BTS) - Under unrevealed circumstances, the Ninja Hanzo bonded to the Venom symbiote. He became the right hand of Japan's ruling Shogun, traveling the country to eradicate the rebels against Shogun's rule. Their latest target was the mysterious Armored Samurai who was decapitating innocent people.
(Venom: Black, White & Blood#3/3) - Venom and
Hanzo confronted the Armored Samurai at his castle in Shinano, but
found him a stronger opponent than expected. The Armored Samurai
gloated that he had deliberately lured Venom into a trap and revealed
his own Carnage symbiote, which terrified Venom due to its past history
with Carnage. Now transformed into Carnage, the Armored Samurai
attacked, but Hanzo reassured Venom that despite his past defeat, they
were stronger together as Ninja.
Venom split itself into multiple identical copies, attacking Carnage from all sides. Carnage kept slicing through Venoms, eventually stabbing the one which he believed to be the real Hanzo. However, this was all part of the ruse, and while Carnage was preoccupied, the real Hanzo struck him from behind, neatly slicing off the head of the host. Venom caught the head in its mouth and ate it, annoying Hanzo.
Comments: Created by Takashi Okazaki. The character is likely based on Hattori Hanzo, a historical 16th century Samurai who had become an archetypical ninja in the modern culture.
The narrator's declaration that "peace reigns in Japan" is immediately followed by the mention of rebel forces that need to be eliminated. One is left to wonder whether the irony was intentional.
