History:

(Daring Mystery Comics#8/5 (fb) - BTS) - Known as the "The Groom" because he pulled every job in a wedding suit (not a tuxedo, but a three piece suit, anyway), he led at least a small criminal gang.

Somehow learning that the man known as the "Li'l Professor" had designed a robot that could be remotely controlled, the Groom considered that he could steal it and then use it to do all of the dirty work while he and his gang collected the profit. To this end, he had his men stake out the Li'l Professor's house and inform him when the short guy and his fat wife left home so they could steal Rudy.

(Daring Mystery Comics#8/5) - While the Professor's wife took their nephew, Oswald, out to see a movie, the Professor and Rudy stayed home to paint a room in the house. Seeing the described woman and little guy leave the house, one of the Groom's men reported to the Groom that the coast was clear. After explaining to that agent and another why he wanted the robot, the Groom joined them in breaking into the house, unwittingly setting off the Professor's alarm, which sounded out via Rudy's systems.groom-lilprofrudy-bucket

When the Groom and his men confronted the Professor at gunpoint and announced their intent to take Rudy, the Professor, who was atop a ladder, instead swung the bucket of paint at them, dropping the bucket on the Groom's head and spraying his men with paint.

Despite the bucket on his head, the Groom told his men not to worry about him and to instead get the robot. As the goons rushed them, the Professor instructed Rudy to fight.groom-lilprofrudy-watergun

After Rudy's first response was to hurl a blazing blow torch at the men, the Professor turned on his super-sprinkler system, while Rudy took out the Groom's men.

As the Professor turned off the sprinkler system, the Groom, having removed the paint can from his head, grabbed a gun and confronted him, demanding to know where he had hidden the robot. When the Professor refused to answer, the Groom fired his gun, only then realizing that he had picked up a water gun, which belonged to his nephew, Oswald.

Meanwhile, Rudy, holding one of the real guns, held the Groom at bay until the police, having heard the Professor's siren, arrived.

Recognizing the groom despite all of the paint, one of the policemen told the Groom that he and his pals were going on a nice, long honeymoon...to Sing Sing prison.

Comments: Created by Frank Pretsch (at least).

The site of the L'il Professor's home was not revealed. However, given that the police officer told the criminals that they were going to Sing Sing, which is about 30 miles north of Midtown Manhattan on the edge of the Hudson river, it was likely either in or close to one of the fiver boroughs (the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens or Staten Island) of New York City.
