History:
(Annex#4 (fb) - BTS)
- Janet Galloway was an agent of A.I.M., who cunningly got her
into the Adarco (ADvAnced Robotic COmpany) company, and she worked her way up to serving as the right
hand person to CEO (chief executive officer) Abner Dunson.
(Annex#1 (fb) - BTS / Amazing Spider-Man Annual I#27/1
(fb) - BTS) - Dr. Hillman Barto had ideas on how to use a combination of
cytology and computer technology to develop prostheses for war veterans
who had lost a limb in combat. He approached Abner Dunson of Adarco
about funding his research, but Dunson, who had lost his own son David
in war, was reluctant to fund something so altruistic. Barto had to
promise to explore the military capabilities of his research in order to
get the funding to continue. Barto worked for the subsidiary R&D
Team for Adarco, established the B.R.E.W. (Bio-Regenerative Energy Well)
that would send forward biological matter in various configurations to
pre-selected units and delivered to someone who
was wearing an annexing unit. He was unaware that Dunson had compromised
his research, uploading the recorded memories of his son David into the
computer unit.
(Amazing Spider-Man
Annual#27 - BTS) - Abner Dunson tried to use the A-unit technology to
restore his son to life, battling Annex (Alex Ennis) and ultimately
having his mind incapacitated.
(Annex#1 (fb) - BTS) - After Dunson was institutionalized,
the rest of the board members took over, pushing Galloway and her
armament projects aside, preventing her ability to take control.
At Galloway's request, A.I.M. gave her one last chance to seize the reins of Adarco and the
annexing unit so it could be absorbed into A.I.M.'s budding weapons-dealing empire.
(Annex#1 - BTS) - A remote-controlled car targeted Hillman
Barto as he was supervising a field test of Annex, but Annex incapacitated
the vehicle.
Unidentified agents confronted Barto at gunpoint near
his Long Island house and forced him to accompany them at gunpoint, they
demanded to know the location of his laboratory.
Galloway sent Brace to collect the Annex armor, and
Brace ambushed Annex shortly after he exited Barto's secret laboratory.
(Annex#1) - After Annex had stunned and escaped to go after Barto,
Galloway confronted Brace, asking what had happened. Brace complained
about the difficulty in obtaining the armor without damaging it, although
he was more than willing to kill its wearer. Taking him into her van, she
just told him that he must find a way. She further noted that her other
agents had reported that Barto had agreed to take them to his secret base
(at the threat of harming his family), but that they needed the Annex
armor as it was constructed from stolen Adarco technology and it was a
prototype that their superiors wanted.
(Annex#1 - BTS) - Barto led Galloway's agents to his
base and allowed its security systems to incapacitate him. In a second
confrontation with Annex, Brace drained his armor's energies, causing
Annex to crash to the ground.
(Annex#2) - Observing remotely, Galloway considered
that despite his mental instability, she was pleased with his success. She
also noted the reporter Kenny Brown having observed the battle; however,
not wanting to draw attention to Adarco or A.I.M., she resolved to keep him under surveillance for now. "If
it ends up that he has to be eliminated, then so be it!"
(Annex#2 - BTS) - After getting himself, Melody and
his former abductors out safely, Barto destroyed his base to prevent
Adarco from gaining its secrets. Alex, having escaped the Annex armor
before Brace recovered it, subsequently met back up with Hillman and
Melody Barto. At Alex's insistence, Hillman implanted a new annexing
device with Alex, allowing him to become Annex again.
(Annex#2) - Galloway instructed Brace to return to
their operations base and to make sure he wasn't being followed, which led
him to blow up the car from which Kenny Brown had observing him, although
he apparently did not see that Kenny escaped. Galloway was upset at his
potentially drawing attention to them, and she had him stash the annexing
unit so she could send a team to recover it later. She then instructed him
to recover Barto, who was needed to adapt the annexing unit to Brace to
potentially cure him (his body having been 80% replaced by bionic
implants).
(Annex#2 - BTS) - Setting aflame a house in Barto's
neighborhood, Brace forced Annex to deal with that, allowing him to take
Dr. Barto and escape.
(Annex#3 - BTS) - After Annex entered the Adarco
Building and accessed Galloway's system, this set off a secondary alarm
system that alerted an unidentified A.I.M. agent, who sent Platoon A-1 to
the Adarco building to target the intruder.
(Annex#3) - Brace brought Barto to Galloway to her
base at temporary installation, and she congratulated him on his success,
but also instructed him to be more careful about coming and going to avoid
attracting undue attention. She subsequently revived the dazed Barto, who
recognized her and was not surprised to find her behind recent events.
Galloway informed him that she had not let Adarco's board of trustees to
junk all of the worthwhile projects they had worked so hard to undertake;
she further advised
Barto that he was going to help Adarco moving ahead with these projects.
Barto accused her of being worse than Dunson, who was insane, while she
was doing this for profit.
Galloway then informed him that she had been planning
these activities long before Dunson had become involved, having worked for
"another organization" whose influence had assisted Dunson in channeling
his company's resources toward more profitable areas. As she left for an
appointment, she instructed Barto that Brace was going to help convince
Barto to alter his annexing unit for Brace's use, and that after Brace had
field-tested it, they were going to mass produce it and create a highly
marketable military product; "We can't be diverted from that to help your
precious disabled."
Barto had originally
designed the annexing unit to create new limbs for amputees, particular
from war injuries.
(Annex#3 - BTS) - Annex discovered Galloway's
involvement with the Dunson and suspected that she had been in on his
"screwy schemes" and was aware of his identity and involvement with Dr.
Barto.
The Platoon A-1 unit confronted Annex, and during their
battle, a security guard triggered the alarm to evacuate the building.
(Annex#3) - Within minutes, Galloway arrived in the
building's lobby, where the security guy Robert informed her of the battle
of "guys in battle suits" on the fortieth floor. As she had Dr. Barto's
annexing unit, she thought that it couldn't be Annex, but she subsequently
questioned this.
(Annex#3 - BTS) - After Annex defeated Platoon, he
revealed that they had been working out of the Adarco Arsenal Development
Station. Seeking to infiltrate that building, Annex donned the Platoon
armor and flew there. He was observed and followed by Spider-Man, and upon
his arrival and failure to activate his security tracer signal, an A.I.M.
agent alerted security, and Brace, now wearing the original A-Unit
(annexing unit) swiftly arrived to confront him.
(Annex#4 (fb) - BTS) - Along with the rest of Adarco's
Board of Trustees, Galloway fled the corporate headquarters by helicopter.
(Annex#4 - BTS) - As Annex battled Brace, Spider-Man
rescued Dr. Barto, whose modifications to the A-Unit soon began to restore
Brace's bionic parts with organic tissue,
(Annex#4) - Realizing that A.I.M. would disavow any knowledge of the illegal aspects of Galloway's
activities and that she would be left high and dry, Galloway resolved to
get to the warehouse and make sure Brace destroyed everyone.
(Annex#4 - BTS) - The A.I.M. liaison reported that Operation Adarco Takeover was collapsing
and requested orders. He was instructed to salvage available equipment and
get out quickly, and he was further instructed that Galloway was
considered expendable.
(Annex#4) - From the
helicopter, the board observed Annex battling Brace, and they realized
that Galloway must have authorized his reactivation and noted that she was
in trouble. When the helicopter was damaged by the battle, Annex and
Spider-Man kept it from crashing while the board evacuated. Reaching the
bottom first, Galloway took a weapon from a security agent as he evacuated
the building, and she subsequently located and confronted Dr. Barto.
(Annex#4 - BTS) - Meanwhile correcting blaming
Galloway for these dangerous events, "She's
always been the hawk amongst us," the board fired Galloway.
(Annex#4) - At gunpoint, Barto
told her that Adarco's technological talents should have been assisting
people and bettering lives, but Galloway noted that her efforts were
bettering her own life. She noted her intent of reclaiming the annexing
unit with Brace's help and then heading Adarco under A.I.M.'s banner and then potentially taking over A.I.M. itself. When Barto revealed that the A-Unit was restoring
Brace's humanity, Galloway smacked him in the face with her gun and then
shot at him before Brace arrived, seeking vengeance for having suffered at
Adarco's hands. Galloway deactivated the A-Unit, agonizing Brace with the
feedback, which also caused the room to collapse. Annex rescued Dr. Barto,
while Brace prevented Galloway's escape.
Galloway apparently perished in the collapse, while
Barto perished soon after from wounds incurred either from Galloway's
bullets, or the feedback energies of the collapse.
