History:
(Avengers I#252 (fb) - BTS) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
discovered a secret base in the Arizona desert, which had been
previously operated by Thanos. Colonel Farnam was placed in charge of
the operation as the Army sought to determine whether they could make
use of any technology Thanos left behind in the base. The effort was
titled "Operation: Prize Package." The Army engineers erected a hut
over the entrance to Thanos' base, which was built into the base of a
rocky butte.
(Avengers I#252) - Concerned about what the Army might do with Thanos' technology, four of the Avengers came to the base. Colonel Farnam greeted them and claimed the Army had everything under control. Farnam took the Avengers through the Army's hut and into the base itself, which he described as filling "almost the entire butte and extends down at least a mile." Farnam believed believed if they could learn how just a fraction of Thanos' technology worked, the United States would "never again need fear an enemy power!" Just then, Starfox beheld two Army scientists operating a long-range molecular transmitter grid. Starfox tried to stop them but the grid began to function. As Starfox tried to prevent the device from activating, Farnam attempted to order him away from the device. Starfox responded that he was raised among machines like it. Unfortunately, Starfox was unable to stop the function the scientists had inadvertently set off and the device teleported Thanos' lieutenants the Blood Brothers into the facility. Colonel Farnam watched helplessly as the Avengers fought the Blood Brothers until the Scarlet Witch used her hex power to seal off the part of the base the Blood Brothers were in so that Farnam and his staff would be protected from them. After the Blood Brothers were defeated, the Avengers turned the duo over to Army custody. Colonel Farnam started to apologize to Captain America but Cap noted, with some anger, that if the Avengers hadn't been present, there could have been a major disaster.
(Avengers I#253) - The Avengers remained to help clear up some of the damage done to the base during their fight with the Blood Brothers. Colonel Farnam watched as Starfox removed from the base a piece of technology called a Symbio-Nullifier in order to use it to render the Blood Brothers harmless. Once the Blood Brothers were neutralized, the Avengers sped away, having realized their entire mission in Arizona had been a ruse fabricated by their chairman the Vision in order to distract them.
