History: (Marvel Comics Presents III#5/2 (fb) - BTS) - Excalibur of Earth-616 visited this reality during the Cross-Time Caper. They arrived in 1989 Berlin, and Rachel Summers inititally assumed that they were finally home. Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner) spent several days monitoring radio chatter of his native Germany, which was being shaken by protests. He learned that his adversary Destiny (Irene Adler) of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants was also in the area and went to confront her.
(Marvel Comics Presents III#5/2) - Destiny ran into a group of protesters, which according to her predictive powers should not have been there. Nightcrawler tackled her aside and was surprised when Destiny lovingly addressed him as a relative. Before she could elaborate, they were attacked by Sabretooth (Victor Creed) who forcefully tossed Nightcrawler aside, wounding him, and boasted that Destiny was not going to get away from him. Nightcrawler teleported Sabretooth onto the minefield on the other side of the Berlin Wall and then dropped a guard truck on top of him. Armed Stasi policemen arrived on the scene and opened fire, but Sabretooth unexpectedly pinned Nightcrawler and Destiny against the Wall, shielding them from the bullets with his body and urging Nightcrawler to think as to why he was helping him.
Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde) and Lockheed came to Nightcrawler's rescue, despite his urging her to stop. Lockheed burned Sabretooth's face, and Shadowcat phased Nightcrawler and Destiny through the Berlin Wall, leaving Sabretooth partially stuck inside. Nightcrawler had questions for Destiny, but she refused to answer them as he and Shadowcat were not of this reality. Sabretooth broke free, demolishing the section of the Berlin Wall he was stuck in, and the locals cheered and poured through the breach. Sabretooth was unable to pursue Destiny in his weakened state, and Nightcrawler teleported his allies away. He, Shadowcat, and Lockheed joined their Exaclibur teammates aboard the Lightning Force train and departed this reality.

This story was the first time Claremont's original intention to have Destiny be Nightcrawler's mother had explicitly appeared in print, albeit specifically in an alternate reality where "anything's possible". In 2023, X-Men Blue: Origins would finally establish that this was true of Earth-616 Nightcrawler as well.
Shadowcat is still wearing the "warrior" costume she was given on Earth-1289, indicating that this story takes place soon after Excalibur had departed that reality in Excalibur I#17.
Both the art and the logic of the story depict the Berlin Wall as a singular structure. In our reality-1218, a second "inner wall" was standing about ~100 meters after the main Wall, and the "death strip" with a clear line of fire for the guards was laying in between the two.
Destiny's powers tell her that Nighcrawler and Shadowcat are not from
this reality, but Sabretooth has no such context and speaks to both of
them as if they were the native Earth-19740 versions that he's
familiar with.
After Destiny escapes, he says "Can't
catch Destiny's trail 'til I heal--that'll take time none of us have."
Who are the "us" in this context and what is the
need for urgency, or for going after Destiny in the
first place is not explained further.

While
walking past the Berlin Wall, she saw a vision of several
alternate
reality variants of her son, Nightcrawler, before noticing a
group of
protestors that should not have been there. Earth-616
Nightcrawler
tackled her aside, and Destiny addressed him as her son,
confusing him.
They were attacked by Sabretooth, who managed to wound Kurt. The Stasi
opened fire on them, and Sabretooth shielded Destiny and
Nightcrawler
from the bullets with his body. Shadowcat-616 arrived and phased
Kurt
and Destiny through the Berlin Wall and onto the other side. Destiny addressed Nightcrawler as "her boy" again, and he tried to ask her about it, but Destiny offered no answers and disappeared into the crowd.

Shadowcat-616 arrived to rescue her friend, confusing Sabretooth who mistook her for Kitty Pryde-19740. Lockheed-616 breathed fire into Sabretooth's face, while Shadowcat used her powers to partially fuse him inside the Wall itself. Sabretooth broke free, destroying a section of the Berlin Wall and inadvertently inspiring the protesters to take down the rest of it. Nightcrawler had teleported his friends away, and Sabretooth needed time to heal before catching Destiny's trail again so he blended in with the crowd rushing through the breach.

Destiny was in Berlin in November,
1989. 
Chasing Destiny through Berlin,
Sabretooth caught up
with her near the Berlin Wall and tossed aside Nightcrawler-616,
whom he
had mistaken for his native counterpart. Sabretooth threatened
Desiny before
Nightcrawler grabbed him and teleported him onto the minefield
next to
the Wall, triggering several explosions before dropping a guard
truck
on top as well. Commending the effort, Sabretooth noted that he
was
talking instead of killing and asked Nightcrawler to think on
that.
Stasi agents appeared and opened fire, and Sabretooth pinned
Nightcrawler and Destiny against the Wall, using his body to
block the
bullets aimed at them.
