History:

(Red She-Hulk I#66) - At Desert Base, just as a gamma bomb was about to be tested, scientist Bruce Banner risked his life to push teenager Rick Jones into a safety trench. An instant later, Bruce's colleague Betty Ross pushed him into the trench. The bomb then exploded and Betty was caught in the blast of gamma radiation. Betty would thereafter transform into the brutish rampaging monster called the Hulk. At the same time, the Betty Ross from Earth-616 brushed up against this reality through the Nexus of All Realities and merged with her counterpart, forgetting about her own reality. However, her subconscious mind influenced the development of Earth-616.1. Time on Earth-616.1 moved faster than on Earth-616 as Betty lived out years in Earth-616.1 relative to only a few minutes of her home reality's time.

Banner tried to help Betty control her transformations, even building a fortified lair to keep her from breaking out. After a battle with the Leader and the Abomination, Banner acquired gamma drain technology that he used to help Betty control her transformations. Thereafter the Hulk became less brutish in intelligence and gradually more feminine in appearance. In time the Hulk joined the Avengers and started a romance with Thor.

Rejected and cut off from Betty, Banner allied himself with Dr. Able Stack and helped him design robots who were intended to police the Earth's superhuman population. The robots they built included the Machine Man robots and Sentinels. As Betty's Earth-616 ally Machine Man tried to draw her back to their native reality he likewise merged with his counterpart and had to resist his directives to kill the Hulk and other superhumans. Soon the robots were in battle with the Avengers. As Machine Man tried to guide Betty back, he was joined in his efforts by the She-Hulk, who had come from Earth-616 to help Betty. Nearing the rift of the Nexus of All Realities, Betty regained the memories of her life in Earth-616, which now existed side-by-side with those of Earth-616.1, confusing her. Unfortunately, Betty's adversary Reginald Fortean from Earth-616 had also come in pursuit of her.

(Red She-Hulk I#67) - While She-Hulk tried to help guide Betty back to her reality, Fortean led a troop of cybernetically-enhanced soldiers to attack Betty. Banner, garbed in Redeemer armor similar to Fortean's, mistook him for the Fortean of Earth-616.1 and helped Betty by rendering Fortean's armor inoperable. Banner tried to reconcile with Betty and keep her in his reality but having recovered her true identity, Betty exited Earth-616.1, dragging her Fortean back to Earth-616 with her as the Man-Thing closed the rift between realities. The rest of Fortean's men were trapped in Earth-616.1 and fell under the command of the native counterpart of Fortean. Fortean, the soldiers and the military robots continued their battle against the Avengers.

The name of this alternate Earth is a cheeky reference to the "point one" comics Marvel was publishing at the time which typically were numbered "#nnn.1" and were usually some kind of fill-in story.

According to the Appendix, the reality designation is Earth-13159.

This profile was completed on 03/19/2025 but its publication was delayed, as it was intended for the Appendix's 25th anniversary celebratory event.
