History:
(Western Kid I#3/3) - In need of a horse for a robbery he was planning,
Whip Dillon asked a man to sell him his horse, calling it a "bag of
bones." The horse owner insisted his horse was the fastest cow pony
around and asked for $200. Whip counter offered with 12 cents - the
price of a bullet- as he shot the man dead. Whip took the horse and
tried to ride it but the horse bucked him off. Taking a lariat, he
snared the horse and whipped it into submission.
With the horse subdued, Whip rode it on several of his robberies, taking advantage of its great speed to evade the law. Heading to the town of Carson Gap, Whip robbed a bank and slew one man, stealing $18,000 in gold from the bank. A posse formed to catch him but his horse was so fast he quickly escaped them.
Although he had escaped the posse, Whip had yet to cross the county line and continued beating the horse to keep from being caught. However, he caught sight of a band of rangers coming up the road that had been given orders to shoot him on sight. Whip decided his one chance to was leap over a chasm. However, the horse refused to make the jump. Dismounting, Whip prepared to whip the horse back into submission but once he was down, the horse reared up and struck him in the face with its front hooves. Whip was knocked out and the horse leaped over the chasm, leaving him behind. Whip was caught by the posse from Carson Gap, who hanged him as punishment for his crimes.
