History:
(Brilliant#1) - Corey was a
teller in a Seattle bank. One day a man in his early 20s (a college
student called Amadeus, though Corey didn't know that) walked up to her
counter and told her he was having trouble with his ATM card, adding
that it wouldn't give him money. She told him she would see what she
could do, but then he instructed her to just give him all the money she
could. Corey's pupils contracted into pin-points and she suddenly she
had to do as he said, responded verbally in a monotone "all the money in
the entire bank." She walked over the safe sitting in the back of the
tellers' area and picked up bundles of cash, then began walking back to
her counter with them. A manager spotted this and asked her if
everything was okay, and when she didn't respond he spoke more
forcefully telling her she didn't have the authority to... Before he
could finish speaking Corey reached her counter and began shoveling the
cash under the screen to the waiting youth. As she cried, apparently
aware of what she was doing but unable to control herself, the manager
grabbed her arms and shouted at her to stop, at which point she became
hysterical and began screaming. As she continued to do so, the manager
shouted to the security guards to stop the youth, who was now fleeing
with a satchel filled with the purloined loot, but the proved unable to
do so.
(Brilliant#3 (fb) - BTS) - Corey was later
interviewed by the FBI. She told them she had felt compelled to obey the
robber. The Deputy Director suspected she was lying and really just an
accomplice of the thief, but it was pointed out that while fleeing the
criminal had been shot in the face only for the bullet to fail to even
break the skin, and then when he told the guard who had shot him to
shove the firearm up his ass, the guard had obeyed the instruction.
Comments: Created by Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Bagley and Joe Rubenstein.
Brilliant was an Icon creator-owned series
and part of Brian Michael Bendis' Jinxworld group. It concerned a group
of college students who discovered how to give themselves superpowers,
and Corey's robber, Amadeus, was one of those. The series ran to five
issues, ending on a "to be continued"; two more issues were solicited,
but never released, and it was presumably intended to run to at least
ten issues, given that the five that were released were subsequently
gathered into TPB.
The one clear close-up shot of her face shows
eyes that color picker gives the code b3807f, which is apparently a
light taupe, a very light shade of brown, or ash rose, a "dusty shade of
pink and red." However, she's being mentally coerced/possessed at that
moment, so it's possible this might cause a visible color shift in the
irises, and so this is not her natural eye color.
