(Wyatt Earp I#16/4 (fb) - BTS) - Sally Clark was the sister of Sam
Clark, who became an outlaw. Sally felt sorry for her brother,
believing he had been treated unfairly by the law despite her
grandfather insisting Sam was no good before his death.
(Wyatt Earp I#16/4) - Sally moved to Dodge City and opened up a coffee shop. When marshal Wyatt Earp came to visit the shop, Sally took out her shotgun and drove him from the shop. When he wondered what her problem was, Sally informed him she hated lawmen for trying to enforce laws against restaurants such as hers and she'd heard of Earp's reputation as one of the meanest lawmen. One day, Sam came to the coffee shop with his allies Hunk and Red. The three men came to stay with Sally at the coffee shop, believing it would be the perfect hideout, beneath the notice of Wyatt Earp. When Hunk tried to get fresh with her, Sally warded him off with her shotgun but Sam angrily disarmed Sally and insulted her. Sam's men discovered Wyatt Earp had been eavesdropping on them outside the window and they brought him inside to kill him but Wyatt disarmed Hunk and used him as a shield against the other outlaws. Red accidentally shot Hunk and Wyatt shot Red. Regaining her shotgun, Sally shot Sam in the hand, defeating him. Sam was arrested and Sally apologized to Wyatt for her earlier treatment of him. She invited Wyatt to escort her to church on the following Sunday.
(Wyatt Earp I#17) - While Wyatt was at her coffee and cake shop, the gunfighter Mac Mingo burst into the shop, kicking the door as he demanded service. Sally recognized him from her brother's description and knew he was a dangerous gunman. Wyatt threatened to arrest Mingo but Mingo insisted he would pay for the damages. Mingo claimed he wanted no trouble from the law but Sally warned Wyatt not to trust him. Indeed, Mingo proved to be rustling cattle and Wyatt eventually caught him. After Mingo's arrest, Wyatt enjoyed a coffee at Sally's shop. When Sally asked what would have happened if Mingo had outdrawn him, he said eventually another lawman would have caught Mingo.
(Wyatt Earp I#19) - From her coffee shop, Sally watched as Wyatt out-drew two outlaws in the streets of Dodge City then had his deputy Grizzly Grant take them jail. Sally remarked he was lucky he wasn't killed. Sally wondered if there was a man who was a faster draw than he. Wyatt told her the outlaw Johnny Ringo was a faster draw. Soon enough, Johnny Ringo came to town. The people of Dodge City feared Earp wouldn't face Ringo in a gunfight. Sally and Doc Jason informed Wyatt that the stagecoach company was bypassing Dodge City out of fear of Ringo. Against Sally's wishes, Earp finally resolved to face Ringo in a gunfight and wounded him in the hand, ending Ringo's threat.
(Wyatt Earp I#21) - Joe Rico came to Dodge City after Wyatt had faced one of his allies in a gunfight. Rico made unwanted advances toward Sally and goaded Wyatt into a gunfight. Unknown to Sally, Wyatt had been blinded in his previous gunfight but, while facing Rico, he scored a lucky shot that wounded Rico while a bullet from Rico restored Wyatt's sight.
(Wyatt Earp I#21/4) - After Grizzly Grant was injured during a gunfight, the Darrow Gang decided to descend on Dodge City and take out Wyatt while he was understaffed. Sally warned Earp the gang was coming and ultimately the entire town took up arms to help Wyatt defeat the gang.
(Wyatt Earp I#23/3) - Sally saw Wyatt win another gunfight against two men. When Blackjack Hawkins came to Dodge City and opened up a saloon, Sally heard a gunfight break out there and alerted Wyatt. Wyatt eventually discovered the saloon was covering up for Blackjack's criminal activities. After arresting Blackjack and his men, he told Sally about the operation over a cup of coffee.
(Gunsmoke Western I#55/3) - When the singer Nellie Normand came to Dodge City to sing at the Silver Dollar, Nellie accused Wyatt of being taken by her beauty. To defuse the tension, Wyatt offered to bring Sally with him to hear Nellie sing at the Silver Dollar. When they went to hear her sing, they quickly realized Nellie wasn't a very good singer yet her beauty won over the audience. When Wyatt wanted to see Nellie as well, Sally was upset and went to cry on Grizzly Grant's shoulder. However, Nellie was actual part of a gang of robbers and Wyatt only feigned interest in her so he could capture the gang. After Wyatt explained this, Sally forgave Wyatt, saying she should have known.
(Wyatt Earp I#27/4) - The muscular Bull Thompson enjoyed flexing his muscles and decided to brush off Wyatt's warnings so he could make time with Sally, even beating up two of her customers. When Sally went to Wyatt for help, Bull declared Sally was "his" girl and attacked Wyatt. Wyatt soundly defeated Bull in a fistfight then Bull happily declared he was glad to see Sally was with a real man who knew how to fight. A few months later, Sally and Wyatt saw that Bull had married a tiny woman who constantly put him in his place.

Sally's introduction as a steady love interest for Wyatt came during a period when the Wyatt Earp series was trying to reinvent itself. Issue #14 featured Wyatt shaving off his mustache, changing his physical appearance; Sally's arrival in issue #16 introduced a stable love interest for Wyatt; issue #17 introduced Wyatt's new sidekick Grizzly Grant.

Sam ClarkSam Clark was Sally's brother. Sam and Sally were not close growing up. Before he died, their grandfather told Sally that Sam was no good. Sam became an outlaw and worked alongside men like Hunk and Red. When they needed a place to hide from the law, Sam, Hunk and Red came to Sally's coffee shop, reasoning that, being so close to marshal Wyatt Earp, they could slip beneath his notice. When they discovered Earp spying on them, Sam intended to kill the marshal but Wyatt fought the gang, during which Hunk and Red were killed. Sally shot Sam in the hand to disarm him and permitted Wyatt to arrest her brother.
