History:
(Project
A-Ko#4 (fb) - BTS) - Clark and Diana Magami were the parents
of superstrong teenager Eiko "A-Ko" Magami.
(Projecy A-Ko#1-4 - BTS) - When alien Alpha
Cygnans attacked Graviton City A-Ko and her school rival B-Ko set
aside personal differences to stop them (mostly because the aliens had
kidnapped their mutual friend C-Ko, the person A-Ko and B-Ko had been
fighting over); thus the alien attack was thwarted.
(Project A-Ko#4)
- As Clark read his morning newspaper (which included coverage of the
alien attack) and Diana folded the laundry A-Ko dashed out the door on
the way to school, shouting out her goodbyes as she passed. Clark wished
her a good day without even glancing from his paper, but when Diana
stated they had raised a good girl he did pause to look up and agree
with his spouse.
(Project
A-Ko 2: The Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group) - Three weeks later
Clark and Diana were about to go on a business trip to the states for
four weeks that would overlap the school summer holidays. Before
departing they took A-Ko with them to have a meal out in a new
restaurant that had just opened on the top sections of the Alpha Cygnan
spaceship. Watching her daughter stuff her face Diana expressed concern
about how much weight A-Ko was likely to put on in their absence, but
A-Ko shrugged off this concern and grabbed a lobster from her father's
plate, devouring it as a disappointed Clark mentioned he'd been saving
the crustacean to eat last.
Comments: Created by Katsuhiko Nishijima, Tomoko
Kawasaki and Yuji Moriyama. Adapted into comics by Tim Eldred.
Project A-Ko was an anime film released in Japan in 1986, and proved a hit worldwide among anime fans; while it never achieved the widespread recognition or acclaim as (for example) Akira, it still served to introduce many Western fans to the genre. Unlike many anime, it wasn't based on a prior manga but an original story, a mix of action, comedy, SF and with a smidge of superhero thrown in, as the titular A-Ko (real name Eiko) was a schoolgirl with superhuman strength, speed and agility, the source of which wasn't explained until the final few minutes of the movie when the viewers briefly saw A-Ko's parents. In the anime they weren't named nor did they have dialogue, but A-Ko's mother was holding up a blue costume with what appeared to be a partial letter S in the chest logo, and A-Ko's father was reading the "Daily Plenet" (sic) with a visible headline about "Superma..."; the bespectacled father, seen only as a half-face glancing over the top of his newspaper, and the similarly bespectacled mother bore strong resemblances to DC Comics' Superman and Wonder Woman in their respective civilian guises. The American comic adaptation published by Malibu in 1994 added in their names, confirming them to be Clark and Diana respectively, although it also more clearly depicted the costume Diana was holding and showed the logo to be a C rather than S. Nevertheless, it's pretty clear - A-Ko's superhuman abilities come from her being the offspring of Superman and Wonder Woman, making the girl a half-Kryptonian/half-Amazon. We don't know for sure whether in this reality if Diana used the codename Wonder Woman, nor why Clark's logo is now a C, which suggests his current codename now starts with that letter.

Unsurprisingly considering its success
Project A-Ko had a number of sequels, the second of which provided
A-Ko's parents with another appearance, slightly larger than before
(both got to speak) though still very small, and still without naming
either. CPM Comics adapted the second movie, with Tim Eldred again
handling writing and art chores.
Since the Project A-Ko comic was released by Malibu and that company was
bought out by Marvel, the adaptation falls within the Appendix's remit.
Besides, Project A-Ko does have at least one other tenuous connection to
Marvel. A-Ko's main rival is Biiko "B-Ko" Daitokuji, who designs and wears suits of advanced armor and is the daughter
of a billionaire industrialist weapons designer. In the second Project
A-Ko movie we meet her father, and though he's named as Hikari Daitokuji
it's pretty clear he's...well, suffice to say if they ever do a live
action version they could ask Robert Downey Jr. to play the role.
In terms of realities, while some adaptations
change things to the point where they can't be the same reality as their
source material, in this instance I think the movie and Malibu's comic
adaptation are close enough to consider them one and the same.
This profile was completed on 05/03/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent Malibu's Project A-Ko adaptation.
