Powers/Abilities: Captain America had a shield and a great singing voice. He was an expert orator, able to wax lyrically about being a Marvelite. He presumably possessed the enhanced physical prowess of his counterparts in other realities.

History:
(The Marvel Super Heroes  live action segments) - Captain America introduced a series of cartoons based on his exploits for Boston's Channel 7. During these he interacted on different occasions with Doctor Doom, the Hulk and Bucky. In one instance he paraphrased the "To be or not to be" from Shakespeare's Hamlet, modifying it to instead discuss whether or not he should be a Marvelite. Another time he joined with astronaut Major Mudd to promote Channel 7 place mats featuring Batman, Superman, the Green Hornet and the Marvel Super Heroes (Hulk, Iron Man, Sub-Mariner, Thor and Cap himself). Always gracious with his fans, Cap would send out autographed photos on request.

   When the Marvel Super Heroes cartoon began airing in 1966 one station, Boston's Channel 7, hired an actor to create live action segments in character as Captain America to introduce the show. As their promotional magazine proudly proclaimed, Brooklynite Arthur Pierce was the only live host in the nation, making him also the first live action Captain America on TV (though he was of course not the very first live action Cap, as that honor goes to Dick Purcell in the 1944 movie serial). The same magazine article also helpfully supplied Pierce's physical statistics, which I've used as Cap's in the profile above. Sadly, almost all of the thirteen segments he filmed have been lost to time, but part of one does survive thanks to a fan recording it using an 8mm camera pointed at the TV screen. The picture quality is pretty terrible, but it's still of interest to anyone who is interested in Marvel's history in media outside the comics. It can be viewed on Youtube.

   In some of the lost segments Cap apparently met Doctor Doom, the Hulk and Bucky, though we've neither images nor actor credits for those. He also met with Major Mudd, a character played by Edward Thomas McDonnell, who hosted a long running (1961-1975) children's show on Channel 7, though in that instance it was for a promotional shoot advertising place mats rather than a filmed segment.

   He isn't afaik identified as Steve Rogers during these segments, and I doubt they mention his origin details or powers, but I'm ASSuming that those match the version in the Captain America cartoon he was presenting. His being a good singer comes from the mini-bio of Pierce given in the aforementioned promotional magazine.

   Some might say that this shouldn't count as a legitimate character to be profiled. After all, we don't cover the countless actors and models who have worn Marvel costumes for Macy's Parades, store openings or promotional shoots. To which I respond (1) we are the Appendix, and obscure is our business, and (2) if Pierce had just posed for promotional photos I wouldn't have counted him, but he actually did film segments in character. That makes him viable for a profile on this site. As of the time of writing this profile Arthur Pierce is still with us - hey, Russo Brothers, you're missing a trick if you don't include him in Avengers Doomsday!

   This profile was completed on 08/30/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent Boston's Channel 7's Captain America.
