History:
(Spider-Woman III#4) - Marla and JJJ took Mattie to Marla's old private school and introduced her to Helen Capshaw, the school's principal, who was impressed by Mattie's stellar grades except for math. Mattie made it clear that she wanted to be called Matt and that math stunk. Helen then showed Marla the syllabus for the next semester so she could make sure Martha had all the right books. She also assumed that Marla would take care of fitting Mattie for her school uniform. Mattie hated the whole situation, but Helen was looking forward to see her at the beginning of the next school year in five weeks.

(Spider-Woman III#5 - BTS) - Ms. Capshaw already told some of the girls that Martha wanted to be called Matt and she was immediately bullied on her first day because of that and for being new at school. She also told Mattie's teacher that she did very well in history at her old school, which led to her teacher asking her questions at the museum about Egyptian history that Mattie had no answers for.

(Spider-Woman III#15) - Mattie tossed a girl across the school bus when she bullied her friend Cheryl Lansing. Ms. Capshaw had a meeting with all the girls involved and the school bus driver. She was disappointed in Mattie because she had hoped that Mattie understood the school's standards, but apparently she was wrong. After the incident she was afraid that the victim's parents could sue the school out of existence and Mattie's claim that the other girls bullied Cheryl and started it could not be corroborated because Capshaw also questioned the school bus driver Pearce, who saw nothing until the girl slammed into the front of the bus, and the other girls, who claimed that they didn't start the altercation. Capshaw was even more disappointed with Cheryl Lansing, who sided with Mattie and should've known better to get involved in such a situation. In the end Ms. Capshaw suspended Mattie and Cheryl Lansing for the altercation while the other girls got away scot-free.
