History:
(Matt Slade I#1/3 (fb) - BTS) - Cobra Cain was an outlaw who ran the
illegal activities of an entire gang of outlaws based in the town of
Bucktown. Although publicly Cain presented himself as the leader of the
gang, he was secretly working for Brad Ferris, the mayor of Bucktown.
When Governor Anson Clinton sent his secret U.S. marshal Matt Slade to
clean up Bucktown, Ferris warned Cain who Slade was, as to the public,
Slade was still believed to be a gun for hire.
(Matt Slade I#1/3) - When Slade arrived in Bucktown, Ferris directed him to the saloon that Cain operated out of. As Slade entered the saloon, Cain's gunman Frenchy Poirer picked a fight with Slade but Slade easily outdrew him. Claiming to be impressed by Slade's gunfighting, Cain suggested he come to work for him and invited him into his back office. As Slade stepped into the office, a mirror on the wall revealed to him that Cain, standing behind, was drawing one of his guns. Slade whirled and shot the gun from Cain's hand. Cain fled from the office back into the saloon, demanding his outlaws stop Slade, but Slade bested the entire saloon and arrested Cain and his entire gang. Further, Slade realized Ferris must have been the one who warned Cain that he was an undercover lawman and Ferris was likewise arrested.

Brad FerrisBrad Ferris was the mayor of Bucktown. Ferris permitted Cobra Cain to run the outlaws in Bucktown but without suggesting a link between them. When Governor Clinton sent Matt Slade to clean up Bucktown, Ferris alerted Cobra Cain that Slade was coming. Ferris pretended to be Slade's ally and that he wished to clean up Bucktown. He directed Slade to Cain's saloon but Matt overcame Cobra Cain and captured all of his outlaws. As Ferris went to thank Slade for his actions, Slade revealed that he was certain Ferris was the actual boss behind Cain. Ferris tried to sneak a gun into his hand but Slade disarmed him and arrested him.

Frenchy PoirerFrenchy Poirer was a gunfighter who worked for Cobra Cain. When Matt Slade came to Bucktown and entered Cobra's saloon, Frenchy challenged Matt to a gunfight to see how fast he was. Matt outdrew Frenchy and humiliated him before the rest of the saloon.
