History:
(Blip#7
- BTS) - Bonkoni was a chef, by his own estimation a great
one. He was especially proud of his "irresistible" pies.
(Blip#7) - When the Hulk went on a rampage smashing up the roads in Manhattan the mayor and police were at a loss how to stop him. Fearing that if the army were called in they would cause even more destruction than the green behemoth, the mayor put out an appeal over the news for anyone who thought they might have an idea how to help to come down and offer their services.
(Blip#7 - BTS)
- Seeing the appeal, Chef Bonkoni decided his pies would be able to
distract the Hulk, and swiftly baked a large fruit pie.
(Blip#7) - Bonkoni was the first would-be helper to arrive at the scene, and introduced himself to the mayor and senior police officer present, announcing that he was there to save the city. Looking at the overweight cook in his apron and toque blanche carrying his piping hot pastry prompted the skeptical mayor to respond that he thought the new arrival was heralding it being lunch time. Bonkoni replied that he didn't cook lunches, but instead baked pies, and that he had brought one of his supposedly irresistible pies with him to distract the Hulk long enough for the authorities to drop a net on the jade giant. The mayor pronounced this the most absurd plan he'd ever heard, but told Bonkoni to be his guest and try it anyway.
Bonkoni approached the Hulk, who paused his
road pounding upon detecting the pie's fragrance. The chef introduced
himself and offered the tasty treat to his target, but the suspicious
Hulk demanded to know if it was a trick. Bonkoni insisted it wasn't and
instructed the Hulk to taste the pie, but the irritated Hulk threw the
pie in the chef's face. As Bonkoni was sent flying, the Hulk shouted
that the police were stupid if they thought they could trick him with a
pie, adding that besides he wasn't even hungry.

Blip was a video game magazine released by
Marvel in 1983. Only lasting seven issues, it mostly consisted of
articles and reviews of games, but in two instances it featured short
strips tied to Parker Brothers games based on Marvel characters. In #2
an enraged Green Goblin learned of the Spider-Man video game where he
was defeated by Spidey, prompting him to angrily attack Parker Brothers'
headquarters while the real Spider-Man just happened to be in attendance
publicizing said game. Then in #7 to promote the new Hulk game we got a
strip featuring that character.
As detailed above, Chef Bonkoni was the first
of a number of people who attempted to distract the rampaging Hulk.
After his attempt failed, the next contender was Professor Lazlo J.
Dubious, who tried unsuccessfully to keep the Hulk occupied solving his
Dubious Cube (basically a four-by-four Rubik's Cube), before an
unidentified boy eventually succeeded in convincing the Hulk to smash
things in Parker Brothers' new Hulk game instead of destroying stuff in
real life.
Bonkoni's attempt to distract the Hulk with a fruit pie (and the Mayor's comment that this was an absurd plan) is likely a reference the Hostess Pie ads that used to run in the comics, where fruit pies frequently were deployed for just such a purpose.
Though there's no mention made of Bonkoni's
nationality, beyond what might be inferred by his name, his dialogue
includes some stereotypical inflections suggesting he's either Italian
(saying "I'va" instead of "I've") or French (ze instead of the).
