History: (Hulk: Unchained#1) - Emil Blonsky was a scientist working on a cold fusion gamma ray project. He was present when his fellow scientist Bruce Banner was accidentally exposed to gamma radiation and transformed into a large green Hulk. General Ross ordered Banner locked up, and Blonsky tried to console Banner's girlfriend Betty Ross but received a cold shoulder. Blonsky then sneaked into the gamma ray chamber to gather more information on what caused Banner's transformation.
(Hulk: Unchained#2) - Blonsky was present when the representatives of the Thallibarton corporation presented General Ross with a new T-113 Stealth Tank. He then went back to the gamma ray chamber and exposed himself to gamma, transforming into Abomination. He tried to kill Banner, who transformed into the Hulk and fought the Abomination inside the base. General Ross sent the T-113 against them, which distracted the Hulk and allowed Abomination to take Betty hostage. Abomination threatened to kill Betty, and Ross was forced to order his men to stand down. Abomination took Betty with him and left.
(Hulk: Unchained#3) - Abomination headed towards the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, but was tracked by General Ross, who cut a deal with Banner to save Betty. Abomination chained her to a rock as a bait for Banner, who showed up in his human form. Abomination tossed him off the cliff, but Banner transformed into the Hulk and jumped back into the fight. Betty was rescued by her father, while the fight took the Hulk and Abomination into a radioactive waste storage facility. Hulk smashed until both he and Abomination fell into a vat of isotopes, where Abomination finally passed out while the Hulk endured. On General Ross' orders, the Abomination was sealed inside a titanium tube and buried inside an abandoned nuclear reactor five miles underground.
Comments: Created by Tom Mandrake and Grant Calof. The Hulk: Unchained miniseries was produced and released in collaboration with Universal Interactive, developer of the 2003 video game The Incredible Hulk (not to be confused with another, unrelated game released in the same year and titled simply Hulk). Despite the explicitly promotional nature, the comic series is only very loosely inspired by the game and is incompatible with its story. In the game, Banner becomes the Hulk during a gamma bomb test in a desert, and Blonsky does not turn into Abomination until near the end of the story. In the comic miniseries, Banner is turned into the Hulk by the cold fusion gamma ray projector, which Blonsky then uses to become Abomination shortly after. The game therefore takes place in the separate reality-35984.
Blonsky's nationality is not stated, and in this version of Hulk's origin he does not appear to be a spy but rather merely an over-ambitious scientist.
