Powers/Abilities: Abe no Seimei is a sorcerer of substantial power.

    He can read the minds of others at will.

    Seimei can pull out the astral selves (souls) of other beings, communicating with those beings outside of time and space such that no time passes and that their bodies are not vulnerable; however, this safe period may only last 30 minutes or an hour.

    He can sense mystic energies and determine the origins of objects and beings.

    He can form mystic shields and hold off other beings, including those of magical and/or demonic origin.

    Seimei can open portals in space and transport others to locations with which he is familiar. With knowledge of the location of another dimension, he can open portals and transport others to that realm as well.

    He possesses numerous scrolls, presumably containing a wealth of occult knowledge.

History:
(Kid Venom#1 - BTS) <May 5, 977 A.D.> - Kintaro (who was bonded to the oni/symbiote Clinter) and Usui Sadamitsu traveled to the residence of Minamoto Samurai Corps master Minamoto No Yorimitsu and showed him the Spider-Man-esque cloth pouch they had found in the ashes of an oni/symbiote. Minamoto renamed Kintaro as Sakata Kintoki and instructed him and Sadamitsu to deliver it to Seimei, as it may allow him to solve the mystery of the vacant oni. abe_no_semei-kv3-base

(Kid Venom#2 - BTS) - While battling an immense Devil Spider, Kintoki resolved to allow the Devil Spider eat himself and Clinter, and they planned to eat it from the inside while Sadamitsu distracted it with outside attacks. Kintoki gave the spider-cloth to Sadamitsu and told him that he didn't make it out of the Devil Spider that Sadamitsu would have to run it to Seimei. After the Devil Spider's destruction, Kintoki emerged with a small child of unrevealed origin.

(Kid Venom#3 (fb) - BTS) - Usui Sadamitsu reached Abe no Seimei's house, found it to be on fire and thought Abe no Seimei was already dead.

(Kid Venom#3) - After an exhausted Usui Sadamitsu collapsed while fleeing from pursuing oni, Abe no Seimei removed his astral self from reality and time, assured him that his body would be safe in the meantime and introduced himself. After explaining that the burning house was just one of many places he called home, Seimei further noted that he had temporarily separatedKintoki from the oni (Clinter) and caused it to sleep; although he had read Sadamitsu's mind and knew that the oni was likely on their side, he wished to be cautious "just in case." Already aware that Minamoto No Yorimitsu had sent them and why, he detailed that from studying the pouch, he had determined that they both came from Kakuriyo, a different dimension, although he was uncertain what this coincidence meant. abe_no_semei-kv3-fullish-post

    After Kintoki revived, Seimei apprised them of the urgency of the situation and that there was a way to get rid of the capital's oni in a single strike. He showed them that there were five shrines of Heian-Kyo that formed a giant barrier to protect the capital but today, one of the shrines had been destroyed and the barrier broken. This was the reason for the oni's invasion, and to oppose this, the Onyoryo (the department of yin and yang) had used the remaining shrines to make a special barrier. They (apparently including Seimei) had thusly succeeded in keeping the oni contained in a pocket dimension within the barrier, but they had three problems: (1)  The oni outside the barrier were still on the loose where the broken shrine was, and they wanted Kintoki to set a new shrine there; (2) the dimension holding the oni at bay and would only last for three hours at most, after which all of the oni would be freed; (3) these problems would be solved if they killed the baby.

    Abe no Seimei told them how the number of oni had virtually exploded overnight and that this child could be the cause, as it may be the distant host of the demon spiders. Kintoki instead suggested that they take the child back to where it belonged, but Seimei told him that they did possess that high of a level of skill. Kintoki explained that when Clinter ate the oni, he could take the host's memories and that the child's first memory in this world was in the arms of the monk Ashiya Doman, who must have summoned the child. Kintoki further suggested that if Doman could summon the child that he thought Seimei could send the child back if Kintoki shared his memories; Seimei agreed to try.

    As oni attacked, Seimei stated that they had reached the limit to extending time in astral form, and he returned Kintoki and Sadamitsu to their bodies, telling them to take the child and run to to the northeast. Meanwhile, he (Seimei) became a hitogara (human-shaped paper) and stuck to Kintoki, which would allow him to analyze the memories; he wished them luck, telling them that they would need it.

(Kid Venom#4) - Gedomaru (the crimson symbiote) broke into Seimei's base, and he instructed Kintoki and Sadamitsu to get out of there and leave Gedomaru to him.

(Kid Venom#4 - BTS) - Ultimately, via the self-sacrifice of Usui Sadamitsu, Kintoki escaped with the child through a portal that Seimei remotely opened. Kid Venom arrived on Earth-982, where Spider-Girl asked why he had kidnapped her baby brother

    I found the series hard to follow, especially the fourth issue. You probably need to read the whole series to understand it better.

    The cover to the right is a great visual, but the colors are a little off. There's not a great full body image of Abe no Seimei that I could find.
