History:

(ALF#31/2 (fb) - BTS) - Like other Hairohs (rulers) of the empire along the Senile River way back in the Alexis Dynasty, King Tut-Shum-Kamen was concerned how he would be remembered. His demanding wife, the obese Queen Heifertiti, bullied him into hiring her incompetent brother to construct his pyramid, but the fool read the plans upside-down.

(ALF#31/2 (fb)) - One day, Tut-Shum-Kamen's general Marc Antony-Danza reported that he had found an unconquered feline tribe in Purr-sia. Keen to escape his hectoring wife, he quickly left on a campaign across the Swiss Cheese Alps to subjugate them. However, the felines' seductive ruler Queen Cleocatra immediately captivated him and Tut-Shum-Kamen spent weeks in Cleocatra's palace enjoying her luxuries. But Antony-Danza was frustrated with peace and desired battle, so he called on Heifertiti for intervention. The Queen arrived and challenged Cleocatra to single wrestling combat to determine who would win Tut-Shum-Kamen and the land. The obese Heifertiti literally flattened Cleocatra, fomenting eternal enmity between the two species. Oblivious to the ramifications, Tut-Shum-Kamen returned home with Heifertiti and Antony-Danza.

(ALF#31/2) - In the current era, Melmacian Gordon Shumway (a.k.a. ALF) recounted the historical tale his human buddy Brian Tanner.

Comments: Created by Michael Gallagher, Dave Manak, Marie Severin.

Tut-Shum-Kamen is a play on words on of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamen; Shum relating to ALF's surname and Kamen possibly referring to the musician Michael Kamen (given writer Gallagher's interests; it's unlikely to the Japanese adventure Kamen Rider). Marc Antony-Danza is a pun by combining the names of Roman general Marc Antony and then-contemporary comic actor Tony Danza. The era of Alexis Dynasty refers to the iconic TV soap Dynasty and its svelte baddie Alexis. Other names should be fairly obvious. The puns fly thick and fast in Marvel's ALF comic stories, so I won't explain everything.

Tut-Shum-Kamen would have an unknown distant (possibly indirect) connection to Gornan the Bar-B-Q-Barian as a fellow ancestor of Gordon Shumway, as well as Nancy Drool, cousin to Gordon.

Further details on the Melmacian alien species (according to the ALF television show) can be found on a Melmac fansite. No problem!
