She rides a levitating cotton swab/bud the same way human witches ride broomsticks. Salem Sally's most powerful spell appears to be instant altered self-perception, which lasts for over an hour or until she chooses to end it; Salem Sally uses this to teach her targets empathy and insight. She speaks in rhyming couplets, not just for a spell (which is quite nice for reading, and it's kinda swell!)

Length: 8" (nose to tail end)
Weight: 0.9 oz.
Eyes: Black
Hair: Grey

History:

(Heathcliff's Funhouse#9/2 (fb) - BTS) - The mouse witch Salem Sally settled in a discarded empty Witch Hazel box and considered it home. But a garbage truck was collecting rubbish along the street where Heathcliff the troublesome but always hungry cat lived.

(Heathcliff's Funhouse#9/2) - Heathcliff tossed garbage bags from bins before the garbage men could reach them so that he could rummage through the rubbish for any food scraps. He chanced upon Salem Sally's box-home and she immediately grew angry with him for the disturbance; Heathcliff nastily kicked her away. Salem Sally zoomed back and zapped a spell on Heathcliff that made him see himself as a mouse. The tubby cat ran off scared, squeaking like a mouse. She watched the fracas as Heathcliff ran through a wall to hide with mice inside, much to the surprise of his owners Iggy, Grandma and Grandpa Nutmeg. Heathcliff's antagonists, local bullies Muggsy and his dog Spike, snuck into the house to harass the cat when the Nutmegs were out. But Salem Sally was watching and wanted to teach the two bullies a lesson too, so she removed the spell, and Heathcliff returned to his defiant fighting self, chasing off Muggsy and Spike. Heathcliff grabbed mouse food that had been bought to assuage his hunger while under the influence of the spell and gave to the local mice. Salem Sally flew off, happy that she had taught fellow beings a lesson.

Comments: Created by Michael Gallagher, Warren Kremer, Ruth Leon.

The box Salem Sally lived in was labeled "Witch Hazel", this is shrub from which herbal remedies can  be derived. Obviously in this instance, "Witch" is a play on Salem Sally being a witch, but the plant's name's etymology is apparently from old Middle English (wiche) meaning "bendable".

"Salem" in her name is a clear reference to the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, so it may be that she is from there or even from then.

Warner Bros. Looney Tunes has its oversized nasty witch called Witch Hazel - a completely different-looking character.
