History:
(Amazing Spider-Man I#128 (fb) - BTS) - "Mouthpiece" Moylan was a known
criminal informant and at some point, he encountered Spider-Man.
(Amazing Spider-Man I#128) -
While web-swinging through the city thinking about his enemy, the
Vulture, Spider-Man spotted "Mouthpiece" Moylan drinking with an
associate. Noticing that Moylan seemed to have fallen on hard times,
Spider-Man thought perhaps he could learn some information from him,
dropping down in front of Moylan and pulling him into the air with a
webline just after Moylan passed his liquor bottle over to his
associate. The surprised Moylan nervously asked what Spider-Man wanted
and Spider-Man revealed that he was seeking information on someone who
was masquerading as the Vulture. When Spider-Man asked where the
masquerader was last seen, a panicking Moylan assured Spider-Man he
would tell him as he fearfully demanded that Spider-Man not drop him.
Moylan's drunk associate, unaware of what was transpiring, said his
goodbyes to Moylan and the still-fearful Moylan revealed to Spider-Man
that the Vulture poser had been seen at Pier 20 at the waterfront on
the ship "Dusseldorf." Minutes later, Spider-Man was swinging towards
to Pier 20, thinking that, so far, Moylan's information appeared to be
legit.
Comments: Created by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru, Frank Giacoia and Dave Hunt.
Moylan's eye color was impossible to determine, as his eyes were colored as white dots. My guess is that are actually brown. I believe they were colored as white dots to accentuate his fear of being dropped by Spider-Man.
We see a criminal on the phone
with someone he calls "Mouthpiece" in Amazing Spider-Man I#119 but the
term "mouthpiece" is also slang for a criminal defense attorney or
spokesperson for a criminal organization. The Official Marvel Index to
the Amazing Spider-Man I#5 and the later Amazing Spider-Man: Official
Index to the Marvel Universe TPB both list Amazing Spider-Man I#128 as
"Mouthpiece" Moylan's only appearance so the "Mouthpiece" that the
criminal was speaking to on the phone in Amazing Spider-Man I#119 must
have been A "mouthpiece" not THE "Mouthpiece."
