(
Super Rabbit, The Marvel Bunny#1S) -The world's largest Irish gorilla, Leprekong faced off against Super Rabbit.

Comments: Created by Marv Wolfman. As revealed in FOOM#16's "Department of inFOOMation" section, Leprekong was intended to appear in the first issue of a forthcoming new title based around the Golden Age character Super Rabbit, but the title ultimately never saw publication, and so the single mention remains (afaik) Leprekong's sole "appearance."

Leprekong is obviously a play on Leprechaun combined with Kong as in King Kong, the giant cinematic ape who actually debuted in 1932 in the novelization of his forthcoming 1933 movie. Given this, Leprekong might well have had the magical abilities of a leprechaun alongside the strength and might of a giant ape. If he was stereotypically Irish, and with a name like Leprekong you would expect him to be, then he might well have had red hair and green eyes. Similarly he might have magical origins to explain his giant size, though him being mutated or just a mutant can't be ruled out.

Though he never actually appeared, the fact that other "funny animal" characters (Ziggy Pig, Silly Seal) from Marvel's Golden Age have subsequently turned up on the regular Marvel Earth (616) means that Super Rabbit might well be 616 as well, and therefore so might Leprekong. Which means he still might one day make his debut in a story, or even the MCU! Though probably not.

Profile by Loki.
