History: (The Variants#5 (fb) - BTS) - Through unrevealed circumstances, young Jessica Jones lived in the same reality as another, older variant of herself known as "Knightress." Jessica received her powers at age 16, when she was still immature even by her own later admission. On a road trip to Orlando, she drained her parents and left them in a ditch after they tried lecturing her.
(The Variants#5 (fb)) - Adopting the codename "Jewel", Jessica became obsessed with superheroes and developed a romantic crush on Cyclops whom she called her "boyfriend" despite the two having never met. Upon learning that Cyclops was to wed Jean Grey, Jewel was devastated and went to confront the X-Men at the Xavier Institute. She lost her temper and used her powers to kill all X-Men present, including her crush. Now considering herself a woman, Jewel searched for a romantic connection across her world's superheroes. Finding none, she toyed with them by taking their powers but could only keep them for a few days.
(The Variants#5 (fb) - BTS) - Jewel obtained more long-term powers after she killed Doctor Strange and took his Eye of Agamotto which gave her magic abilities. Using the Eye, Jewel search for a soulmate across the Multiverse, approaching the husbands of her variants and killing them when they refused her. After finally feeling a connection with Luke Cage of Earth-616, she set her sights on the life of that reality's Jessica. Jewel pressed several of her variants into working for her by threatening the lives of their loved ones. Knightress followed Jewel to Earth-616, but had never met her face to face. Two other Jessicas whose husbands Jewel had murdered -- Captain America and "Omega" -- were brought along as well. Jewel ordered Jesse Jones to follow Luke Cage, and Revision to follow Jesse.
(The Variants#2) - Jewel entered the home of Earth-616 Jessica by bursting through the wall of young Dani Cage's bedroom. Jessica-616 met her at gunpoint, accompanied by She-Hulk/Jen Walters.
(The Variants#3) - Jewel pretended to be naive and kind, showing concern when Jessica-616 suffered from a migraine and helping her through it with caffeine. Jessica-616 tracked down the two other Jessicas so that the four of them could talk. The four Jessicas met at the "Stomping Grounds" coffee shop and agreed on nicknames. After Captain America and "Omega" revealed that they had lost their husbands, Jewel feigned the same, saying that hers was killed by her reality's Condorman. Jessica Prime explained that it was ten years to the day since she was taken by Killgrave, and that she suspected that a time bomb planted in her mind would cause her to kill her family.
(The Variants#4) - "Omega" decided to test the theory by asking Prime to show a photo of her family, which sent Jessica-616 into rage and caused her to stab the photo with a knife. After she ran to the bathroom in shock, Jewel told "Omega" that it was a mean thing to do. Jessica Prime returned in the company of Knightress, whom she introduced to the rest, and announced that they were going to do a seance.
The five Jessicas went to the roof of Jessica Prime's apartment, and Jewel brought one of her pillows for Prime to lie down on. With the help of Professor X (Charles Xavier), Jessica Prime purged Killgrave's time bomb from her mind, but then realized that Jewel used her daughter Dani's name despite never having heard it. Jewel offered no explanation, and Prime attacked her, but Jewel fought back and tried to choke Jessica-616. Captain America knocked Jewel back with her shield, and with her deception revealed, Jewel summoned the rest of the variants in her service.
(The Variants#5) - Saying that Prime was the only Jessica in the Multiverse whose life she liked because of her loving family, Jewel revealed her backstory and asked Jessica-616 to switch lives with her, insisting that with her being younger and prettier Luke Cage would accept her as his new wife. Prime attacked her, and Jewel said that she would drain her husband little by little every day until he would grow to love it. Jewel then used telekinesis to restrain Prime and prepared to drain her to death.
At this moment Luke Cage clocked Jewel from behind with a metal chain, restraining Jewel long enough for Jessica Prime to land a few hits in. Prime then told the blackmailed variants that Jewel had no more power over them and invited them to attack her together. Jewel was subdued, and Knightress called Wanda Strange, their world's Sorcerer Supreme to come and collect her. From a safe distance, Wanda put Jewel in a binding spell, after which all variant Jessicas were returned to their home realities.
Comments: Created by Gail Simone and Phil Noto. The explanation as to how exactly Jewel and Knightress co-exist within the same reality had not been revealed, but when asked about it Gail Simone has confirmed that it was intentional.
Tom Brevoort stated on his blog that The Variants series has been commissioned specifically to trademark the term "Variants", popularized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe television show "Loki".
