History:
(Incredible Hercules I#125 (fb) - BTS) - Delphyne Gorgon was the
greatest general serving President of the United States of Amazonia,
Artume.
(Incredible Hercules
I#124 (fb) - BTS) - Delphyne Gorgon was in a
relationship with Amadeus Cho, the two taking a photo together and
Delphyne often suggesting to Amadeus that he should keep a journal next
to his bed for moments when ideas come to him that he didn't wish to
forget.
(Incredible Hercules I#125 (fb) - BTS) - After
successfully capturing the Atlantofascist sea queen Namora, Delphyne
learned that President Artume was not going to publicly share word of
Delphyne's victory, instead wishing to keep Namora imprisoned in secret
so the world still had an "enemy" to focus on. No longer wishing to be
a part of the lies Artume spread, Delphyne Gorgon quit her position as
general. Despite liking men with ambitious drive, Delphyne also
ultimately left Cho, secretly feeling as if she was protecting his
chosen life due to his extremely close service to President Artume and
his refusal to question some things in the sociopolitical system.
Seeing the breakup as Delphyne simply leaving without explanation, Cho
suspected Delphyne left due to his ambitious nature and refusal to give
up his career to marry Delphyne or start a family. While the two broke
up, they ultimately remained friends and Delphyne eventually acquired a
job teaching art.
(Incredible Hercules I#124 - BTS) - Six years later,
after a
particularly wild dream, Amadeus Cho woke up to his alarm going, a
photo of Delphyne and himself together on his bedside table. As his
dream faded
from his memory, Cho thought about how Delphyne was always suggesting
he keep a journal next to his bed for just those type of occasions.
(Incredible Hercules I#125) - Not long after, Amadeus
Cho met with United States of Amazonia President Artume, who asked if
Cho ever talked to Delphyne Gorgon. Cho responded that they were
scheduled to have dinner that night as friends and asked if Artume
wished for him to say hello on Artume's behalf. Artume instead sent Cho
on an errand to deliver a package to the captured Y-Man Hercules and
later that night, Cho met Delphyne for dinner, where he discussed
Hercules' attempts to manipulate him into betraying Artume. Delphyne
questioned whether Cho knew what was in the package he delivered but
when Cho claimed that it wasn't his point, Delphyne relented, reminding
Cho that she taught her students, female or male, that they must turn
away from aggression and destruction and towards creation and
protection if they wanted peace. Upon hearing Delphyne's words, Cho
admitted that he never could understand why Delphyne left her position
as general to teach art and why she had left him. Delphyne explained
how Cho seemed to want to be willfully unaware and protected and she
felt she was protecting him by leaving. Seconds later, an explosion
rocked the restaurant they were eating at, destroying a statue of
President Artume.
Moved
by the words of both Hercules and Delphyne, Amadeus Cho opted to learn
what President Artume was hiding behind a security door in which he did
not have clearance to enter. Manipulating the system in his favor, Cho
snuck into the door and found the now-deceased Namora and deduced that
Delphyne had been the one to capture her. Fully aware of Cho's
treachery, Artume and her telepathic agent White Phoenix attacked Cho
and Artume confirmed Cho's suspicions that Delphyne had captured
Namora, only to quit as Artume's general when the capture was not made
public. While Artume was dealing with Amadeus Cho, Delphyne donned her
old general's uniform and teamed up with the equally-tired Avengers
Spider-Woman, Ms. Fantastic and Wolverine to free Hercules, only to
find Hercules' cell open due to the package Cho had earlier delivered
on Artume's behalf. Hercules explained to Delphyne that he had not
freed himself but rather, the package contained a device that opened
his cell automatically and how Artume had similarly freed him once
before so that he could continue to make himself an enemy she could
publicly use to keep the public fearful and desiring of her rule. When
Hercules admitted he was tired of Artume's games, Delphyne smirked and
revealed how she and the rest of the Avengers were equally tired.
Delphyne then led Hercules and the
other Avengers to a large coliseum where Artume was preparing to
publicly execute Amadeus Cho. Hercules busted into the coliseum and
Delphyne followed, publicly announcing that she was giving her
misplaced deference in favor of actively challenging Artume to battle
for the crown of Amazonia. Artume quickly turned to White Phoenix, only
to find that Wolverine had White Phoenix pinned with her claws, and she
then agreed to Delphyne's challenge. A fierce battle ensued that
resulted in Delphyne decapitating Artume.
