History:
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Phoenix Saga - Part IV: The Starjammers" - BTS) - Earthquake was chosen as a representative of his race to join the Shi'ar elite Imperial Guard. The Imperial Guard was tasked with enforcing Emperor D'Ken's law across the Shi'ar Empire.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Mojovision") - When the interdimensional, media-obsessed tyrant Mojo abducted the X-Men to boost his ratings, he cast them in a series of televised scenarios featuring simulated opponents. In the segment "I Dream of Jean," Jean Grey and Wolverine faced off against Mojo's agents masquerading as Imperial Guardsmen, including Earthquake, Gladiator, and Flashfire.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Phoenix Saga - Part I: Sacrifice" - BTS) - When Shi'ar Emperor D'Ken's rebellious sister Lilandra stole the powerful M'Kraan Crystal, D'Ken focused all of his attention on locating Lilandra and the object, unaware she was being protected by the mutant heroes known as the X-Men and the powerful Phoenix (Jean Grey).
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Phoenix Saga - Part IV: The Starjammers") - Emperor D'Ken met with Imperial agent Davan Shakari, and Gladiator in private when a hologram of Corsair (leader of the pirate Starjammers) appeared, offering the M'Kraan Crystal and leader of the X-Men, Cyclops, in exchange for a large sum of money. Unbeknownst to D'Ken, Corsair planned to use Cyclops to assassinate the Emperor. After their discussion, Earthquake and the Imperial Guard entered the chamber after which D'Ken ordered Gladiator to destroy Corsair and the Starjammers upon their arrival. The Guard was then instructed to help prepare a trap.
Not long after, Corsair arrived with the M'Kraan Crystal and Cyclops in tow, unaware that the "D'Ken" they faced was actually Guardsman Hobgoblin in disguise, while the Emperor observed from high above. Just as Cyclops was about to strike, Gladiator ordered the Imperial Guard to seize them, leading Hobgoblin to reveal the deception. At that same moment, Phoenix, Lilandra, and the X-Men arrived to rescue Cyclops and the M'Kraan Crystal. As a fierce battle erupted between the X-Men and the Imperial Guard, Earthquake was caught off guard by Gambit's attack two times, unable to release an attack himself. Lilandra and the X-Men seemingly escaped, only to encounter Gladiator and D'Ken, who successfully unlocked the crystal. Even the powerful Phoenix was unable to prevent D'Ken from opening a breach that unleashed the power of the negative galaxy within, which soon began pulling everything and everyone inside.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Phoenix Saga - Part V: Child Of Light") - After Emperor D'Ken bonded with the M'Kraan Crystal and began reshaping reality within it, the Phoenix evacuated the X-Men, Corsair, Lilandra, and Gladiator to the fleeing Starjammer. At the same time, Earthquake, Starbolt, and other members of the Imperial Guard abandoned the Imperial cruiser, escaping aboard a smaller vessel. As the Phoenix attempted to contain the Crystal's unstable energies, she was drawn inside. The Crystal's power spiraled out of control, destroying the Imperial cruiser and pulling in nearby vessels, including the Guard's escape craft and the Starjammer, into its inner dimension. The disturbance spread across space, drawing in solar flares and sending destructive shockwaves throughout the galaxy.
Inside the Crystal, the survivors found themselves in a warped reality where D'Ken, now one with the Crystal, wielded near-omnipotent power. Taking on a giant form, he mocked Lilandra's warnings that his actions would destroy the galaxy and imprisoned her within an energy sphere, prompting the X-Men, Starjammers, and Imperial Guard to unite against him. During the ensuing battle, Earthquake used his abilities to create a towering wave of stone to fight D'Ken, but the attack proved ineffective. Starbolt later aided Flashfire in distracting D'Ken long enough for Titan to increase his size and strike the mad emperor from behind, seemingly shattering him, though D'Ken soon reformed, causing the unstable environment to further collapse and forcing the heroes to regroup. Moments later, the Phoenix reappeared and, sensing Lilandra's starcruiser approaching, transported all survivors, including Earthquake and the Imperial Guard, aboard the vessel, out of D'Ken's immediate reach.
Aboard the starcruiser, the Imperial Guard could only watch as the Phoenix chose to sacrifice herself. Merging with the M'Kraan Crystal's energy matrix, she restored it and imprisoned D'Ken within, ultimately placing the Crystal inside the sun to safeguard it.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Phoenix Saga - Part V: Child Of Light" - BTS) - Following D'Ken's defeat, Lilandra became Majestrix of the Shi'ar Empire. Earthquake continued to serve loyally as a member of the Imperial Guard under her reign.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Dark Phoenix - Part III: The Dark Phoenix" - BTS) - Learning the Dark Phoenix had destroyed the sun of the dead D'Bari System, Empress Lilandra quickly ordered Gladiator to assemble the Imperial Guard and prepare the Imperial flagship for immediate departure to Earth. The Shi'ar High Council had decreed that the being known as both the Phoenix and Jean Grey must be destroyed. Arriving on Earth with members of the Imperial Guard, including Earthquake (although unseen), Lilandra informed the X-Men of the Council's decision. Unbeknownst to the Shi'ar, Jean Grey had temporarily regained control with the help of Professor Charles Xavier, suppressing the Phoenix Force within her mind.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Dark Phoenix - Part IV: The Fate of the Phoenix") - Acting swiftly, Professor Charles Xavier telepathically searched Lilandra's mind and discovered the ancient Shi'ar rite of trial by combat known as Arin'nn Haelar. Invoking this challenge, Xavier forced Lilandra to comply, and she returned to her Imperial flagship, bringing Jean Grey and the X-Men aboard. Bound by Shi'ar law, the Imperial Guard, including Earthquake, was required to face the X-Men in combat to determine the fate of the Phoenix. Both sides were transported to the Blue Area of the Moon, where a breathable atmosphere allowed the battle to take place.
During the battle, Earthquake joined Hussar in an assault against Storm and Gambit and came out as the victors. As the conflict continued, the Imperial Guard gradually gained the upper hand, defeating the X-Men one by one until only Cyclops and Jean Grey remained. When Cyclops was critically injured by Starbolt and Gladiator, the emotional strain caused the Dark Phoenix to re-emerge within Jean. The Dark Phoenix swiftly incapacitated the entire Imperial Guard, including Earthquake. While the Guard lay unconscious, Xavier revived the X-Men, who attempted to stop Jean. Regaining control briefly, Jean Grey chose to sacrifice herself, redirecting the Shi'ar cruiser's weapons to strike her.
In the aftermath, the true Phoenix Force manifested, revealing its role as guardian of creation. It offered to restore Jean's life by drawing upon the life force of others, and the X-Men willingly shared their energy to revive her. With the crisis resolved, Lilandra and the Imperial Guard departed for the Shi'ar Empire.
(X-Men '97: The Animated Series cartoon - "Lifedeath - Part II" (fb) - BTS) - The clash between the militaristic Kree Empire and the highly advanced Shi'ar Empire marked the onset of the Kree-Shi'ar War. Both empires, driven by expansionist ambitions, sought dominion over the galaxy. The Supreme Intelligence had gone into hiding as to avoid capture. Learning the Supreme Intelligence had fled, Princess Deathbird and the Imperial Guard set out to locate the embodiment of the collective consciousness and leadership of the Kree Empire.
(X-Men '97: The Animated Series cartoon - "Lifedeath - Part II") - While leading a fleet of Kree ships, Ronan came under attack by Deathbird, famed for her volatile temperament. Seemingly unimpressed with the Shi'ar princess, Ronan told his men the pigeon wouldn't thwart the will of the Supreme Intelligence and used his Universal Weapon to fire at Deathbird. However, moments later the powerful Imperial Guard arrived and easily gained the upper hand, taking down Ronan's army of Kree soldiers while Deathbird defeated the Accuser herself. Defeated, Deathbird interrogated Ronan as Vulcan used his powers to hold several Kree soldiers at gunpoint forcing them to watch. However, before Deathbird could act upon her threat a Badoon messenger appeared with news of the empire as Empress Lilandra announced she would marry the Terran known as Professor Charles Xavier. Deathbird and the Imperial Guard returned to Chandilar, Ronan's fate remains unrevealed.

Mojo was evidently aware of the Imperial Guard, as his agents adopted their likenesses and abilities for his broadcasts. Other simulated opponents featured in his programs included members of the Brood and the Punisher.
X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "The Dark Phoenix - Part IV: The Fate of the Phoenix" had several cameo's during crowd scenes on Lilandra's Imperial flagship. Some of those characters included are: a Z'Nox, E.T., a Skrull, a Twi'lek from Star Wars, Brother Royale, a Xenomorph from Alien, a Ithorian from Star Wars (also called Lady Escargo when she appeared in "Mojovision", a Kree soldier, and even the Fantastic Four's Thing!
When, in 2015's Secret Wars, the Multiverse was destroyed following the incursions of planets it appeared as if Reality-92131 was drafted onto Battleworld as the Westchester domain. However, this has since been debunked. As such the reality seen in the two volumes of X-Men '92 (2015 and 2016-2017) now have their own reality-designation of Earth-15730. The X-Men '92: House of XCII (2022) series was inspired by both the animated series and Hickman's House of X run but is its own separate reality. The limited series X-Men '97 (2024), however, is Reality-92131 and bridges the gap between the original X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon and the new X-Men '97: The Animated Series cartoon.
