DEXTER DOLPHIN
Real Name: Dexter Dolphin
Identity/Class: Dolphin (fringe character)
Occupation: Wild dolphin
Group Membership: His pod
Affiliations: Bedtime Bear, fellow dolphins in
his pod, Humphrey
Enemies: None
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Mobile in the ocean
First Appearance: Care Bears#12/4 (September
1987)
Powers/Abilities: Dexter Dolphin has the usual
attributes of (what appears to be) a young bottlenose dolphin, an
intelligent
sea-based mammal with a top blowhole reliant on oxygen. Dexter displays
helpful altruistic behavior and enjoys playing with a ball with others
in his pod. It's unrevealed if this is learned behavior from human
interaction or other dolphins. As a bottlenose dolphin, he would
typically swim up to a speed of 10 km/h (and be capable of short bursts
of speed) and jump up to 15' in the air.
Length: 12'
Weight: 550 lbs.
Eyes: Black
Hair: None
History:
(Care Bears#12/4 (fb) - BTS) - While playing with his
friends, Dexter Dolphin was having trouble with a volleyball that had
sprung a leak.
(Care Bears#12/4) - The Care Bear Bedtime Bear woke
up from a nap to find his cloud bed had torn away from the main cloud
where the rest of the Care Bears lived. On his tiny cloud, Bedtime Bear
drifted quickly down and landed in the sea. Dexter splashed up and the
two introduced each other in a friendly manner. Dexter asked for help
in repairing his ball and Bedtime Bear easily did so using a cloud
patch. Dexter returned the favor by calling over his big whale buddy
Humphrey to use his big blowhole to squirt Bedtime Bear high up into
the air so the Care Bear could drift back to his cloud friends.
Comments: Created by Michael Gallagher, Howie Post, Roberta Edelman.
Given dolphins communicate via clicks and whistles,
this story suggests that Care Bears can communicate that way too.
"Never trust a species that grins all the time. It's up to something." --Terry Pratchett on dolphins (from his humorous Discworld fiction book Pyramids).

CLARIFICATIONS
:
Dexter Dolphin has no known connections to:
Humphrey was a whale and buddy of Dexter Dolphin, who asked Humphrey if he could send helpful little Bedtime Bear back into the clouds to join his Care Bear friends. Humphrey squirted out a mighty load of wet air from his big blowhole that ejected the happy Care Bear into the sky.
Humphrey looks like a sperm whale, given
his side profile, but it appears he has baleen and not teeth in his
mouth. Maybe they're just jolly non-threatening teeth for a friendly
squirty sperm whale.
