History:
(Red Raven Comics I#1/4) - Captain Holbrook served as a senior police officer in an unnamed city. During a late shift, he responded to a report of homicide at the Harrison residence, involving the death of electrical genius Dr. Harrison. Upon arriving with the Coroner, Holbrook found the body of Dr. Harrison near a machine capable of triggering massive explosions via electromotive rays and a "death switch." Holbrook questioned Mrs. Harrison, who initially claimed she shot her husband in self-defense, alleging he intended to use the machine to threaten the world.
(Red Raven Comics I#1/4) - Suspicious of her story, Holbrook and rookie officer Jack Kavanaugh continued their investigation. Kavanaugh discovered evidence under a misaligned couch, revealing that Henry Van Ornam, Harrison's associate, was the true conspirator. Van Ornam had collaborated with Mrs. Harrison to eliminate Dr. Harrison and use the weapon for personal gain.
(Red Raven Comics I#1/4) - In a climactic confrontation, Van Ornam attempted to silence everyone but was disarmed and apprehended thanks to the quick actions of Holbrook and Kavanaugh. Holbrook maintained composure throughout the case, ultimately solving the murder and preventing the use of a devastating weapon.
Comments: Created by Herbert J. Martin.
Holbrook appears to be the lead protagonist and moral center of the story. His methodical approach contrasts with the panicked Mrs. Harrison and the violent Van Ornam. His quick thinking and command in high-stress situations align with the archetypal pulp-era detective figure.
