    He learned the English language, as many fellow prisoners did.

    He wielded a giant scimitar suitable for his superior height.

(
Incredible Hulk II#198 (fb) -BTS) <13th Century A.D.> - Akbar was an exceptional fighter of the Mongolian army, who received the high honor to become the bodyguard of the great Kublai Khan.

    At some point, Akbar was abducted by an alien named Taneleer Tivan, whose greater purpose in life was "to collect for the purpose of preserving". Tivan, also known as the Collector and one of the Elders of the Universe, placed Akbar into his museum, where he was a prisoner in his spaceship.

    In the centuries that followed the Collector chose Akbar as bodyguard, a role that the human fighter apparently liked and tried to perform at his best.

(Incredible Hulk II#198) - In recent years, after the Collector added the Hulk to his museum, Akbar was introduced to Bruce Banner. Akbar's size and presence was impressive, and his loyalty went to his master.

    When Banner's cooperation ceased, Akbar intervened to defend the Collector. A blow of the warrior hurled the frail doctor beyond a machinery. Akbar charged to kill the man who had threatened his master, but the creature that emerged behind the machinery was a different one. A huge green fist smashed the great scimitar. Akbar was astonished at seeing a green monster, as massive as himself, and that was the last thing he could do, because the Hulk knocked him out and flung Akbar away with a single right...BWAM!

(Incredible Hulk II#198 - BTS) - Almost all the prisoners of the spaceship were freed by the Hulk, but they died a few minutes after they exited the ship. The prison technology protected them from aging, but outside the influence of the protection they rapidly aged, becoming dust. Akbar was not seen among them.

    Shortly after, the spaceship was covered by the extremely rapid growth of vegetation in that part of Florida near Omegaville. In few weeks, nobody could tell that anyone had been there.

    If Akbar, after his awakening, tried to go out of the ship, he died as the other prisoners. However, the Collector, believed dead for Glob's hands, wasn't really dead, and returned to Earth months later. Maybe he saved Akbar as well.

    The Arabic word "akbar" means "greater" or "the greatest." Akbar was probably larger than any other man he met before or after he became the Khan's bodyguard, but Akbar's language was not Arabic. It is very unlikely, but still possible, that an Arab man nicknamed him using that word, and he (or the Khan) liked it.

    Was Akbar at the service of the historical Kublai Khan, or of the Marvel Kublai Khan (see sub-profile)?

CLARIFICATIONS:
Akbar should be distinguished from:

Kublai Khan

    (real life) Kublai Khan was born on the 23rd September, 1215 A.D.

    (Agents of Atlas I#6 (fb) - BTS) - Like his grandfather Genghis Khan, Kublai Khan was advised by the ancient Lung dragon Mr. Lao, and with his help expanded and strengthened the Mongol Empire.

    (real life) - In 1260 A.D. Kublai became Khagan ("Great Khan") of the Mongols, succeeding his deceased older brother Mongke, but was forced into a civil war with his ambitious youngest brother Ariq Boke which ended in 1264 A.D. with the Mongol Empire fragmenting. Left with control over much of China, in 1271 A.D. Kublai decreed himself the first Emperor of China's new Yuan ("Original/First") Dynasty.

    (Incredible Hulk II#198 (fb) - BTS) - During Kublai's reign as emperor, Akbar was one of Kublai Khan's warriors and became his bodyguard.

Nanjing under Kublai Khan's rule

    (Ms. Marvel II#26 (fb) - BTS) - In the year 1368 (see comments) the Mongol dynasty still ruled China, and Kublai Khan was the Emperor.

    Zhu Yuanzhang opposed to the Khan's rule and sought to free China from the Mongols. At Nanjing, in China, on January 1368, Hui Lin attacked two soldiers of the Mongolian Army, declaring that he would kill Kublai Khan.

    (Agents of Atlas I#6 (fb) - BTS) - Like all those advised by Mr. Lao, when the time came for Kublai to hand over rule of his empire to his successor Kublai was devoured by the dragon. Centuries and several Khan-meals later, Lao would opine that Kublai still tasted best.

    (Atlas#5 (fb) - BTS) - Kublai's spirit joined Genghis in an afterlife that resembled the Mongolian steppes, and over time they were joined by their successors once Lao devoured them, including in modern times Plan Chu (a.k.a. the Yellow Claw).

    (Atlas#5) - Plan Chu's successor Jimmy Woo visited the steppes to thank Plan Chu for vital assistance he had presciently arranged for Woo while still alive. Kublai joined Genghis and Plan Chu in riding out to greet the new arrival, but hung back with Genghis while Plan conversed with him.

   In the silhouetted image the middle rider at the forefront is Plan Chu; the other two are Genghis and Kublai, as confirmed by dialogue, but it's not revealed which is which.

    Kubla Khan is a poem written by Samuel T. Coleridge, regarding the the historical Emperor Kublai Khan. The historical Kublai Khan was Khan between 1264 and 1294 (source: Wikipedia).

   A version of Kubla (sic) Khan based on Coleridge's poem appeared in Fantastic Four: True Story#2. However, since that was a fictionalized version and not the 616 one, he's not covered in the subprofile above - but you can see him in the image to the right.

    Hui Lin/David Sum claimed his purposes against Kublai Khan, in the year 1368; also, Carol Danvers reported that Hui Lin was born in 1320. Historically, Kublai died in 1294 and Zhu Yuanzhang became emperor in 1368. Possibilities:

  1.     In the Marvel Universe, Kublai Khan was Khan in the year 1368, differently from our history. => Akbar's Kublai Khan was also Nanjing's Emperor;
  2.     In the Marvel Universe, another Khan, named Kublai, was ruler of Mongols and China, one hundred years after his historical homonym. => Akbar's Emperor was the historical Kublai Khan;
  3.     Ms. Marvel II#26 flashback contained a historical error, because the Khan, historically, in 1368, was Toghan-Temur. => Akbar's emperor was the historical Kublai Khan.

    Kublai Khan should be distinguished from:
