NAVARRO

Real Name: Navarro

Identity/Class: Human vampire

Occupation: Would-be enslaver of humanity

Group Membership: Leader of his own pack of vampires

Affiliations: His vampire pack (including Drew Stanley & Randy Oliver)

Enemies: Hannibal King, Tatjana Stiles, Andrew

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: New York City

First Appearance: (Voice heard) Journey Into Mystery#520 (May, 1998); (full) Journey Into Mystery#521 (June, 1998)

Powers: Navarro possessed the traditional powers of a vampire. He was virtually unkillable, except by being decapitated, burned to death, or staked through the heart, and could heal normal wounds quickly, especially by keeping himself stocked up on blood. He had superhuman strength (approximately class 5), could mesmerize others, and transform himself into a bat, wolf, or mist. By draining the blood from the bodies of others, he could transform them into vampires as well. Navarro also possessed an elongated lifespan, and it is not known how many years (or even centuries) old he was.

History: The full background behind Navarro has not been disclosed. He was a South-American Indian, who at some point in the past, was transformed into a vampire, and came to lead his own pack of vampire servants in America.

(Journey Into Mystery#521 (fb))- Navarro led a team of vampires to an overseas factory where chemical weapons were being manufactured, with the intent of using these weapons against humanity to thin out their numbers. However, CIA agents Tatjana Stiles and Andrew had raided the factory, and downloaded the computer codex. The two then took different paths to evade pursuit.

(Journey Into Mystery#520 (fb, BTS))- Navarro's vampires caught up with Andrew, and killed him in his car.

(Journey Into Mystery#520 (BTS))- The vampire detective Hannibal King, hired by Tatjana, investigated Navarro, leading him to an apartment where two of Navarro's men dwelt. However, they were prepared for him, captured him, and brought him to Navarro.

Navarro had King sealed up inside a concrete room, in an apparatus that would shock him with electricity to drain his power. He then deposited a homeless man inside the room, to tempt King into taking his blood, setting him on the path to joining Navarro. King nearly gave into his bloodlust in desperation, but could not bring himself to take an innocent life. Finally, Navarro had one of his men bite the homeless man, forcing King to take his life to prevent him from becoming a vampire.

(Journey Into Mystery#521)- King was able to escape the concrete room with his renewed strength, and set about learning what Navarro's plan was. King and Tatjana confronted Navarro at his new base, an old steel mill. Tatjana was caught by Navarro's men, who tore her up badly. To save Tatjana from them, King delivered the codex to Navarro. In his glory, Navarro unveiled his whole plan, which disgusted King. King had set explosives in the factory earlier, and set them off as he and Tatjana escaped. Navarro was unable to escape the mill, and died in the explosion.

Comments: Created by Marv Wolfman, Karl Kerschl and Al Milgrom.

In Blade III#12 a prophecy was fulfilled that brought back all vampires that ever died. This most likely included Navarro as well. We'll have to wait if he resurfaces.
