History: (Thor I#302 (fb)) - Aaron Verne was a devoted student of geometry, but lacked the funds needed to pursue its study in college. He took a job as a bank teller to make ends meet, but his mind constantly drifted off as he thought about geometry. Finally his boss Mr. Hunnicut fired him for having no passion for his work. Frustrated, Verne reached out in his mind to the perfect geometric images which had fascinated him-- and found that they had become real! He soon found that he could create geometric shapes simply by the power of his belief in them.

(Thor I#302) - To have his revenge, Verne took the alias of "Locus" and returned to the bank to rob it. He bound up Mr. Hunnicut, and filled the contents of the vault into a briefcase created by his powers. However, as he departed, he found the police and Thor waiting for him. He assaulted Thor with his powers, while shielding himself from the policemen's bullets. Finally, when Thor hurled Mjolnir at him, Locus trapped it within a polyhedron. But even so enclosed, Thor was still able to will his hammer back to him, and by force of will, was able to remove Locus' barrier.

Having seen how much Thor valued having Mjolnir in his hands, Locus decided to have that power for himself, and encased a woman within one of his spheres. He threatened to crush the sphere unless Thor lay down his hammer, and Thor complied. Locus lifted Mjolnir to himself upon a disc, but as soon as he grasped it, he fell to the ground due to the worthiness enchantment protecting Mjolnir from abuse. Locus suffered a concussion, and went unconscious. After being examined by Dr. Donald Blake, he was sent away in an ambulance for treatment.

Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, Keith Pollard, Chic Stone and Al Milgrom.

Gruenwald himself worked in the file room of a bank to make ends meet while he was trying to break into the comics industry. You can also witness Gruenwald's fascination with geometry in the Angler and Geometer in Quasar.
