History: (Marvel Team-Up Annual#2 (fb, BTS))- 30 years ago Daniel Ironwood was one of the giants of the newborn nuclear age, some hailed him as another Einstein, until he was black-listed during the McCarthy era.

(Marvel Team-Up Annual#2)- On the 4th of July, the Soviet Super-Agents arrived at Professor Ironwood's apartment to kidnap him and his daughter.

Darkstar brought Professor Ironwood out with her in order to make Cissy Ironwood surrender. After Vanguard had knocked down Peter Parker, the Soviet Super-Soldiers escaped with Professor Ironwood and Cissy.

(M/TU Annual#2 (BTS))- The Soviet Super-Soldiers brought both of the Ironwoods to Cheyenne Mountain to their leader, General Kutzov.

Near Castle Rock, Montana, KGB Major Alexi Vazhin told Robert Bruce Banner that Professor Ironwood and his daughter had been kidapped two days ago.

Peter discovered a piece of paper in Ironwood's apartment, and was scared of what the notes said. As Spider-Man, he brought it to Reed Richards to learn if he was correct. Reed Richards told Spider-Man that "his friend" was indeed correct-- that the notes tell of something big. The notes were a formula for an uncontrolled matter/Anti-Matter reaction: the first step to creating an anti-matter bomb.

At Kutzov's secret hiding place inside Cheyenne Mountain, Kutzov threatened to kill Cissy if he didn't cooperate in building the anti-matter bomb.

(M/TU Annual#2)- Kutzov was gathering up his belongings, and made Cissy and Professor Ironwood help him. When Major Vazhin arrived, Cissy watched as the two of them begans to fight. After the threat of Kutzov was ended, Professor Ironwood was gunned down by Vazhin in order to save the world. With his dying breath, Professor Ironwood told them that it was better this way, and that his secret of the anti-matter bomb would die with him. Cissy stood by his side as he died.

Comments: Created by Chris Claremont, Sal Buscema, Alan Kupperburg and Jack Abel.

Since the fall of the Berlin wall, and the collapse of Eastern Europe in 1989, and the later collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, the Soviet Super-Soldiers and KGB references are also topical.

Darkstar said "curse you Dimitri Ivanovitch" on page 6 of Marvel Team-Up Annual 2. I guess she should read the profile next time, since the previous Crimson Dynamo was named Yuri Ivanovitch Petrovich, while the one who replaced him was named Dimitri Bukharin.
