History: (Fantastic Four I#358/2 (BTS))- The man known only as "the Editor" was employed by Dr. Doom at some point in the past to manipulate the history of Latveria. Because all of Castle Doom was wired for sound and picture, it was the Editor's job to alter the records to show only the history Doom wished to present.

(Fantastic Four I#358/2)- As the Editor was working on revising Dr. Doom's reclaiming of Castle Doom from Kristoff Vernard to make it seem that no battle had occurred at Castle Doom and that Kristoff had been Doom's willing servant all along, he was discovered by Hoskous, who was astonished to find the Editor in a room which was not in his catalogue. The Editor noted that many were unaware of his existence-- and many denied it as well. The Editor showed Hoskous what he was doing and explained his job to him, all of which Hoskous found difficult to believe. Hoskous noted that the battle at Castle Doom was to have never occurred, even though the damage done to the castle had not yet even been repaired.

The Editor also revealed to Hoskous how some versions of Latveria's history have credited all of Doom's defeats to his robot duplicates, the Doombots. But the Editor observed that Doom, a ruler who demands blind obedience from his subjects, would never program his robots for independent thought. As if to illustrate, a Doombot passing them in the hall promptly tripped over its own feet and got up cursing "Richards." The Editor then turned Hoskous over to the Servo-Guards to have them purge Hoskous' memory of having ever met the Editor.

The Editor reported to Dr. Doom later, and informed him that the newly revised history was complete. Doom reminded the Editor that he was not irreplaceable, and that there were others who would do his job with greater efficiency. The Editor replied, "Forgive me, master! I meant no disrespect! The official history is now true and correct! For the moment!"

Comments: Created by Tom DeFalco and Art Adams.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if during the recent takeover of Latveria by the Fantastic Four in "Authoritative Action", they never found the Editor's hideaway. He's probably already coming up with a way to explain the FF's occupation to the citizens once Doom is restored to power.

Hoskous served in the Bureau of Latverian Antiquities, and had been cataloguing at Castle Doom for five years. On one tour of the castle, he was astonished to encounter the Editor in a room whose existence he had no knowledge of. He was equally astonished to learn of the Editor's role in Latveria. Hoskous was then turned over to the Servo-Guards by the Editor to have his memory purged so that he would never reveal what he had learned.
