History: (Thor Annual I#12/2) - As winged Inhumans became more common amongst the population of Attilan around 1,000 BC, the Inhuman King Nestor had his people construct the Aerie, a great tower from which the many winged Inhumans could live. However, the winged Inhumans became increasingly hostile towards those below in Attilan, spurred on by their leader Kylus. Amongst those who were in a position of authority over the winged Inhumans, only Cheiros, a bat-winged Inhuman, stood up for the cause of diversity, and encouraged his fellow Inhumans to not rush into war. For this, Kylus had Cheiros imprisoned.

As Kylus prepared for war with Attilan, he became concerned that the non-feathered winged Inhumans would turn on them because of Cheiros' influence, and he had all those winged Inhumans without white feathers slain. Only Cheiros was spared, so that he could be tortured by Kylus himself. Even after all of this, Cheiros begged to his fellow winged Inhumans: "I am not your enemy. Fear is your enemy. And love your only friend. Kill me, but remember that." Cheiros was slain soon afterward.

(Red Raven Comics#1/Thor Annual I#12/2) - In the 1920's, a young human was found in the wreck of an airplane in the Aerie, and the Bird People adopted him as their own. Naming him Red Raven, they presented him with artificial wings, made from Cheiros' own wings, so that he might avenge the honor the Bird People lost when they slew him 3,000 years earlier. Red Raven did so, and became a super-hero in the 1940's.
