CALIZUMA

Real Name: Calizuma

Identity/Class: Human(?) magic-user

Occupation: Would-be world conqueror

Group Membership: Leader of the Warrior Wizards

Affiliations: Apparently an agent of the Undying Ones

Enemies: Defenders (Dr. Strange, Hulk, Namor, Silver Surfer)

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Currently unknown; formerly a Himalayan valley

First Appearance: Defenders I#2 (October, 1972)

Powers: Calizuma was a powerful sorcerer. He could project bursts of energy, deflect mystic attacks, alter the appearance of himself and others, and manipulate the minds of others. It took the combined powers of the original four Defenders to stop him.
The Warrior Wizards possessed similar power to Calizuma, although on a lesser scale.

History: Not a whole lot has been revealed about Calizuma or his Warrior Wizards. They appear to be human sorcerers, although their backgrounds are unknown. They transformed themselves into semi-human anthropoids and posed as a yeti-like tribe in the Himalayas, in a valley which was ruled in the distant past by the Undying Ones.

(Def#2(fb)) - Follow a recent struggle with Galactus, the Silver Surfer went to the Himalayas, hoping to do something meaningful. He encountered this tribe of ape men and took it upon himself to train them in the rudiments of civilization (such as fire) while guarding against their learning of the evils of man (such as greed and hate). After some time, feeling that he had steered them on the right path, he decided to return to the outside world. However, unbeknownst to the Surfer, the Warrior Wizards spent their time with the Surfer subtly penetrating and controlling his mind.

(Def#1 -BTS) - Calizuma directed the Silver Surfer to attack and defeat Namor, in preparation for Necrodamus' sacrificing Namor to the Undying Ones.

(Def#2)- The Surfer's allies, Namor and Dr. Strange, searched for him, wishing explanations for his recent attack. When they encountered him, he denied any memory of the attack on Namor. Eventually they (along with the Hulk) tracked him to the Himalayan valley of the "ape men," and the Hulk attacked the ape men.The Surfer broke up the fight and explained his time training the ape men. However, Calizuma and his Warrior Wizards then revealed themselves and attacked the four Defenders. Fearing that the large number of sorcerers would eventually overwhelm them, Strange had his allies concentrated their efforts on Calizuma, who crumbled under the onslaught.
Without Calizuma to lead them, the Wizard Warriors rapidly fell before the Defenders power. Strange then placed a "spell of atonement" on the wizards, causing them to forget their evil pasts and to seek that life no further.
