Powers: The Defiler drew strength from placing beings in its realm. It could create a dimensional portal, through which it could hurl victims to gain greater power. It could also generate whirlwinds to pull victims through the portal. It could draw on the life energy of its victims to gain superhuman strength and durability, with no known limit. With a group of about forty human victims, it possessed Class 100 strength. It could also create powerful force fields able to withstand the combined power of the West Coast Avengers.
Victims in its realm would likely eventually die if it drained sufficient energy from them. It required a steady supply of victims, or it would rapidly run out of power. In addition, the portal could not be forced open without the Defiler's permission. However, a being that had been in its realm before could act as a key to reopen it and allow others in.
The Defiler took the appearance of a large human heavy metal rock star. Its true appearance may be significantly different.
History: The origin of the Defiler is unknown. It came to earth and took the form of a human heavy metal rock star. It created a band known as Corruption of Innocence in order to give it a steady supply of followers and victims. Wonder Man encountered and saved one teen, Mikey, from it, although his girlfriend Susan was cast into the portal and the Defiler escaped.
Wonder Man summoned the rest of the West Coast Avengers, who tracked the Defiler to a large concert, where it was sucking the crowd into its dimension. The West Coast Avengers were forced to tunnel under its powerful force field before they could stop the flow of victims. Mikey then helped Dr.Pym open the portal and, using Iron Man as an anchor to hold the portal open and provide a lifeline, they retrieved the victims and returned them to Earth. Its power rapidly dwindling, the Defiler attempted to flee to another realm to start over, but Wonder Man hurled it into its own energy draining realm, where it was trapped.
